    Electric Bill

I just mailed off my electric bill today. Last month it was $168 but this month it's $313 and that's with me using a fireplace. I guess with the TVA spill they neeed to pass on the clean up costs to their customers. Can't wait until next month's bill How's your electric bill this month?

AEP report significant profits in 08 (though did have a poor 4th quarter)
they are raising rates 15% IN 09 (I suppose they want BIGGER profits)

Ours was just a few bucks over $100 this month, but our power rates are due to increase by 25% with the next bill. New AC and new ductwork has saved us a ton over the past two years.

Mine was over $225 but I have equal pay so, I only had to pay $125 but I have a feeling that amount will go up come renewal time.

Mine is about $180 all year. It's more expensive in winter, but I spread out the bills and do an average payment so that there are no more $300 surprises in winter.

Really?!?!? We had something like that happen here a few years back when the company decided to save money by estimating everyone's usage, as opposed to sending readers out one month. Mine went from $110 to $250 that month. I guess they felt I'd have the cyclotron in the basement running by then. Worst part is; if you look at your bill, usage is generally a small part of the amount. Most of your bill is fees and service charges.

When I lived in Roberts, MT back in High School. Montana Power would only check your meter twice a year. They would send you a card each month to mark were the meter arrows pointed. Then you took your card to the MP office in Red Lodge and they told you what you owed. You could have cheap power for 5 month then get nailed for the 6th month. Later in the early 90's, I worked with a guy in Bozeman, MT who never paid his electic bill during the winter. It seem that Montana had a state law at that time that the power companys cann't cut off your power during the winter months, something about freezing rain. So he just worked out a payment plan to repay his winter bill through the summer months, in time to do it all over again.
