Ledger Gets Best Supporting Actor Nom

.....but "The Dark Knight" failed to get a nom for Best Picture or Director. Is the Academy afraid to give a nomination to a comic book movie because it just might win? And god forbid a comic book summer popcorn movie win instead of some artsy stuff that no one has ever seen.

Isn't Doubt or Slumdog Millionaire the frontrunners? I remember seeing the broadway production of Doubt but not the movie. I think Slumdog Millionaire was supposed to be a straight to DVD but then won Golden Globe Best Picture so now is in theaters.

I don't know who Heath is up against but hands down best comic book villain protrayed on screen.

He was great but he would kneel before Zod.

If there was a Most Popular Dead Guy catagory, I think he'd win for sure.

Heath's only real competition is probably PS Hoffman from Doubt. But since that dude has already won an Oscar, and Heath is the sentimental fave, it's a 99% sure bet they'll give him the posthumous award.

The Dark Knight definitely got jipped. The Oscars is in danger of doing what the Grammys did a while back; becoming totally irrelevant to the general public. It surprised me that the Golden Globes, which seems to cater more toward the public's tastes, also snubbed DK.

At the very least Nolan should have gotten a nom for best director. Seems like he probably had something to do with Ledger's performance as well. Hence the word "director".

It's something of an oversight, but genre films are rarely nominated for major industry awards. The original STAR WARS film and the LOTR movies were the lonely exceptions. As fans we "should" be pleased that TDK has been nom'd for so many technical awards and of course the nod to Heath's eye-popping and indelible performance.
