Circuit City Pulls the Plug

Circuit City announced today that they're closing all of their remaining stores and liquidating. I'm sad for all my friends who work their, but since they're my #1 Competitor, this'll mean money in the bank to me.

They closed their doors about 4 years ago.

I'm surprised CC were still around till now.

website says it starts tomorrow. This was obviously planned for a while. When they couldn't secure a buyer they had no other choice. Didn't have to be Nostradamus to see this one coming.

I dunno, the Canadian division ("The Source by Circuit City") doesn't really carry the wide variety of product that CC in the US did, they aren't really the same animal as the US big box CC stores. They were basically smaller, mall located Radio Shack stores that ended up with a name change and crappier service/product. I'm actually surprised that these Canadian stores aren't closing too, I never see anyone in there.

On the other hand, I'm not surprised at all about Circuit city. I could see the writing on the wall for several years now. Their downward trajectory probably began with their serious misstep with DIVX back in the late 90's, the format that lost out to normal DVDs. It's said that Circuit City lost at least $114 milllion dollars over that mistake.

Went to a CC store tonight, just to catch the vibe before things "start" tomorrow... it was pretty surreal.

I liked Circuit City. Bought a lot of games and stuff there. I'm gonna miss 'em.
