Man, can you believe it? No major injuries, no casualties!!

The pilot, the flight crew, the rescue people all need to have medals pinned on their chest and a hero's parade!

It was amazing that no one was hurt. My insides turn to mush when I hear about plane crashes in NYC. I'm just glad this one had a happy ending.

They're going to raise the plane out of the river at 10am EST Saturday, according to the news.

It's pretty cool that what EASILY COULD have been a news event
sparking depressing death stories and all that has instead become a
news event jam packed with stories of survival and triumph over what
could have been a major tragedy....talk about "GOOD NEWS"

The captain already has over 236,000 fans on Facebook. Amazing. I want this guy piloting every US Airways flight I take.

This hero monicker gets a little out of hand sometimes. The label is too easily applied.

To me a hero is someone who is in NO danger but KNOWINGLY puts himself in grave danger to save others.

Not to knock the pilot but he was in the same danger as the others to start with. If he would have been helicoptered in climbed through the window and took over the controls all the time knowing the plane WILL crash and made a safe landing now there is a hero.

                    Or

If he was faced with just him dying in a crash and saving all the others or saving himself in the crash and everyone else dies and chooses to save the others then yes he is a hero.

It is a matter if self sacrifice for the common good of others. What did you think the guys choices were? To go sit back with the passengers and scream like a little girl in terror? Jump from the plane with a parachute? No he had no choice but to land it. Now you can say his pilot skills are remarkable but easy on the hero stuff.

                    My two cents.

My definition of a hero is a bit wider than yours. I think he is a hero because he was able to reach within and do what was needed for a crisis situation. Also, in the tradition of Captains of ships or plains, he himself didn't get off the plane until everyone else was off and walked the plane twice to confirm it. He could have just as easily been one of the first people to get on the rescue boats.

The man utilized his god given talents to take an impossibly dire situation and turn it into one of the best and most inspirational moments in the history of flight. The chances of making that landing without tearing the plane apart, or putting it down nose first (given the engines attached below the wings) was miniscule, yet he stayed calm in the face of certain death to pull off what most pilots probably couldn't do in a simulator. If that ain't a hero to you, then you watch too many Hollywood movies.

That would make him Bruce Willis.

It's got nothing to do with watching too many movies...that's MY opinion.

..and please...I don't wanna hear "god given" talents...I don't believe in a God. The pilot was very good, great at his craft...I'm sure he studied very hard, and logged thousands of flight miles. But he didn't pop outta of a little genie bottle or given special powers by Zeus or Odin, lol.

But if that was just a figure of speech...then I apologize in advance.
