    Pat Hingle passed away

Most of us here know him as Commissioner Gordon from the first 4 modern Batman films. I think he did a good job with that, esp. in the first movie, based on what little he was given to work with. His Gordon was pretty close to the comic portrayal of the first 30 years.

But he was in countless movies, and one of my favorites was "Hang 'Em High" with Clint Eastwood. He played a self-righteous territorial judge in that one, and did a fantastic job with it. Few people can say they intimidated Eastwood on screen, but Hingle did, if only briefly.

I'll always remember him most from the April Fools Day episode of MASH.

I remember he did a lot of guest starring roles. He was also in one of my fave Twilight Zone eps, where his character returned to the street he grew up on and found out that his childhood wasn't as great as he remembered.

          RIP Pat.

While he looked nothing like Gordon from the comics, Pat Hingle had that look of a good cop. He did a good job in all four movies I felt. I remember he did an episode of the Six Million Dollar Man called "Pilot Error" where he played a senator with health problems. I also read that he did a movie in the 70's called Supercops. I read that he and his partner were nicknamed Batman and Robin because of their unorthodox methods of catching crooks. I never saw this movie, but I heard about it.
            Cheers.

Hingle somewhat resembled the slightly portly Gordon of the the Golden and early Silver Age. He just needed some glasses, and whiter hair.

Great utility actor, someone who made you feel comfortable in the role by his presence, whether it was an everyday joe, a western gun, a gruff cop or a sleazy politician.

And as Commissioner Gordon of course, Pat did a pretty good job.
