Just like you mentioning Waterworld. Where did I mention that flick as well? When did I mention I liked it?

I didn't say ALL Costner flicks were awesome, I said...

Saw it with my 13-year old history buff son. He thought it was good - followed the actual storyline fairly well.

It is fairly slow paced - it's hard for me to believe these are Germans when they are speaking English (some with a British accent).

What I did not realize is that there were 15 unsuccessful assassination attempts on Hitler during his reign of terror. You would think that when a German pastor (Deitrich Bonhoeffer) wants to stop you, something should click in your head, "Am I doing something wrong here?" Goes to show you how mentally off Hitler was..

I'm a big history buff and went to see it the other night. It does change a few
things from the actual facts. My expectations were not high particularly since the movie has been delayed so long. I thought overall it was a good movie.

I'm not a Tom Cruise fan to begin with but he was terrible. The best term I
can think of to describe his performance is flat. I don't know who would have
been a better choice but Cruise's "performance" and excessive screen time
don't do the film any favors.

It's kind of frustrating because there is so much that is right about the movie. Even knowing the story before hand didn't ruin it for me.

I'd like to highly reccomend a similar film. The original version of "The Day of
the Jackel". Excellent film about a plot to assassinate Charles De Gaulle. This
movie pops up frequently on Turner Classic Movies and is on DVD. Definetly
            worth a look.

a few weeks ago, on the history channel, they did a special on hitler.."42 assasination attempts" or something like that...apparently, there were at least that many attempts to take him out, even quite a few from his "men" as well...the one that this flick is based off of, was the number one attempt...they did some tests and if these guys had actually used both things of dynamite(explosives)..hitler would have been serious wounded or even killed by the blast. think of how different things would have been...
it was an interesting show to watch...for those people interested in the history type shows..that is...

I liked Dances with Wolves fairly well but it was the downfall of Costner. Up until then, he had been in some pretty good movies, nothing that memorable, but good movies nonetheless. After Dances, I think he began to think of himself as an uber-serious artist that could only make an event movie.

And an event movie to him was 3+ hours of crap.

Back on topic, I thought Valkyrie was a decent movie, better than I expected. What I use to judge such movies is does it keep my attention, does it keep me in suspense even though I already know the outcome. This movie did that. Cruise was pretty wooden in it but I prefer that to his hammy style.

and i agree with whoever brought up the germans, speaking english and all that...i know that it would have been a lot tougher to have Cruise learn german...but it would make the movie more "Real"..not that i have seen it yet..but going by the commercials and what you all said..lol...

No one complained when English was being spoken in both Gladiator and 300.

Cary Grant played an American repeatedly. Nobody complained then. I saw Valkyrie last night. I liked it. it's not a great movie, but it is paced very well.

Also the Star Trek world of the Federation speaks English...but in reality...it's more than likely that's it's going to be either Mandarin or Hindi.

I agree Open Range is a really under-rated movie. Most people never heard of it, but I really enjoyed it. So it works for both men and woman.

I was a little puzzled to hear no attempts at German accents in the commercials. But I'd rather they not do it at all than half-do it like Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Not a Cruise fan at all, but I like some movies despite him. I thought his part even went on too far and too long in Tropic Thunder honestly. I'll watch this on DVD.

Open Range is a fantastic movie. One of my favorite westerns. Costner is hit-or-miss, but he's on in this one. And it has Robert Duvall, so you can't go wrong there.
