What Christmas artifacts have you retained from your childhood?

Like most kids, it was always the small details that interested me the most. This held true even during Christmas when I was growing up. Everything from small books to something as simple as a candy jar or erasers. All of these are more or less antiques these days, so I keep them in my collector room to assure they are properly preserved. Just wondering if anyone else has held on to or recollected old Christmas artifacts. Here are a couple of shots:

I loved reading when I was small so it comes as no surprise that many of these books I hold very dear. The first edition of a Charlie Brown Christmas was something I read every year as was my giant Frosty illustrated book, which they still sell today (but in a much smaller size). The book to the left was a record book combo I picked up at a book fair when I was in elementary school in '71 (yeah, I'm old). That book pretty much became my holiday bible for many years after. These days I play it for my youngsters so they can enjoy it as well - Yep, I still have a turn table to play it on. Of course I also had the erasers they sold in school and the big pencil with Santa's head on it. Anyone who grew up in he 70's probably owned 30 of those at any given time. And then there were the Santa figures that held little candies in them and the puppets that were sold right next to them. Of course who can forget the Santa lapel pins with the light up noses? Why they still don't sell those today is something of a mystery to me.

I remember my dad use to bring this Santa jar home every Christmas for many years in the early 70's. If memory serves, he usually picked them up at Roses or Kmart stores. They were filled with candy which seldom lasted the week between myself and my two brothers.

When both my brother and I grew up and got married my Mom split our childhood ornaments between us. She kept the ones me made for her in elementary school and still puts them on the tree.

When I finally got my own house my parents gave me several things we used to decorate the outside when I was growing up. I got the 10-light set of twinkling bells and a luminated coach lantern for outside. I also got a set of 10 coloniel lights and a set of 10 crystal lights for the tree (both sets are over 30 years old). I'm more sentimental about these things than my brother, which is why I have them. To me it's not Christmas if these things aren't out.

None. We moved a great deal when I was a kid, so none of our early Christmas items survived. All the Christmas things I own now are items I purchased as a young adult on up.

The only thing I have are some antique ornaments my mom gave me that belonged to my grandparents.

            Well let's see...

Two of the record albums from even before I was born (Roger Williams Christmas Time, and Harry Simeone Chorale Little Drummer Boy/O Bambino). They still work and we still play them. I also have the star we always used and the 2 FTD green and red toy soldiers I had when I was 7. They're falling apart, but I still hang them on the tree.

I've also purchased the Jackson 5 Christmas album, 'cos we had it when I was a kid. I used to have a Golden book and record of 6 Christmas stories. I found the 45 versions on Ebay, but I still want that album. I also found a repro of the Random House Pop-Up Book of the Night Before Christmas like the one I had as a kid.

I actually remember having some of the things in your pictures. I think all I have left is some ornaments and to tell the truth I don't think we even use them. The kids get so many new ones every year there just is not enough room on the tree.

I am sure my mother still has a lot of that stuff in the attic. I always enjoyed the Santa figurines.(big surprise)

I have all of our old ornaments that have survived. I also have our old tree and a bunch of old decorations for around the house. My wife hates the ornaments and insists we're getting rid of most of them soon.

Not much. We've got some of my grandparents' old ornaments (that have survived). We also still have some old McDonald's flat plastic ornaments that still go on the tree every year. After all, nothing says Christmas like the Hamburglar.

I believe we've still got the Nativity scene that we had when I was a kid around somewhere, too.

Wow!!! Seeing that "Charlie Brown Christmas" book brings back some memories!

My Mom gave me all the Christmas LPs I loved as a kid.

This was my favorite song from my favorite album.

I have 3 ornaments from when I was a kid; a flocked Bugs Bunny, a little stuffed version of the gnome from the cover of the book "gnomes", and a green ornament that looks like disco ball.
My son has loved the green disco ball since he was little. It's always thefirst ornament he wants to put up on the tree. He's 11 now and this year he pulled it out and finally realized how campy and cheap it is. I told him that he finally understood why I've kept it so long. It kind of made it more fun...
