Do burned DVDr's degrade each time a copy is made of a copy ?

Do burned DVDr's degrade each time a copy is made of a copy and so on ?

I heard there is no degradation because it's all digital, but it doesn't sound right to me.

    What do you think ?

theoretically no - but if there is an error in the burn it will show up on subsequent copies. and errors happen. if those have errors those get added - so to maximize quality make an image on your hard drive and copy from that or from the original source disc. use quality dvd-r's and don't overdue the burn speed. don't interupt programs while running.

always burn at half of what you discs say...or even slower in some cases...and do what brue said, use good dvds...etc

I heard always burn at the max ...

Something about if you burn at a lower speed, the burner is purposefully holding back --- making a greater chance for errors to occure because the burner is almost fighting itself to hold back.

The only real degradation that could occur would be if you are compressing material on an original double layer disc to fit onto a single layer DVDR. If you are just making a straight copy, not manipulating the original digital file in anyway, theoretically there shouldn't be any degradation.

A good brand of blank media (eg. Taiyo Yuden) is a big help, but that's mostly for the prevention of burning "coasters" that don't work or end up freezing, and they also tend to last longer (the ink on cheap brands of discs break down faster over time and can make your copies unreadable in the future)

              I mostly use Sony -R

They're cheap when Staples has them on sale --- $12.00 for a 50 pack.
and both my burner and all of my players love them.

I heard some bad things about Memorex years ago .. so I never even tried them.
I heard they rot over time.

Sometimes I use Maxell and TDK

Both seem pretty good, but Sony is my real brand

Oh god, Memorex discs are terrible. Sonys are decent though.

The biggest pain is finding good double layer discs. The only really decent brand that I've found for them is Verbatim, and even they don't work 100% of the time. It's too bad that the double layer discs are still too expensive and unreliable, that's what stops me from using them very often, I haven't had much luck burning on them.

I forget which programs you are talking about. I'm always on the lookout for something that may work better than what I already use.

I've never been tempted by double layer discs.
It could be because I have poor vision, but anything I ever shrank seems to look fine on a single layer ...
I think the biggest things i've shrunk to date are massive TV series discs that contain 5 hours of programs.
Shrunk, they seem fine to me.
