Where's a good place to find deals on Blu-ray DVD's?

Since I've been informed that I have a Blu-Ray player waiting for me Christmas day, my wife has informed me that I need to start giving her some titles to buy, but I want to get them at a good deal. Any good onlines stores that offer good prices?
I'm wanting to get some movies with "wow" on them for my first experience. Believe it or not my initial thinking is the original Superman from '78, Spiderman 2, Planet of the Apes, and Dark Knight. Any title suggestions are encouraged as well.

Keep your eye on sales at Amazon, they usually have the best deals. They had some great deals on Blu-rays this past Black Friday/weekend, but I'm sure there will be some more deals in time for Christmas. Last year at this time was great because the format war was still going on, and I picked up a bunch of Blu-rays for $10 each, but there still should be some good deals coming this year. Be sure to sign up for Amazon email notifications, they often run limited one day specials and they will email you about those.

Amazon has a current "Buy 3 save $20, buy 6 save $50, buy 10 save $100" on a select list of Blu-rays, but unfortunately they jacked up the prices on most of the featured titles today. Still not a bad deal, but not as good as it was a couple days ago.

I HIGHLY recommend The Abyss...but I don't know if it's out on Blue Ray yet...but the film is simply spectacular.

Thanks for the tips Hector and CJeffreys. Some good sources there! Great title recommendation also Hector! I LOVE the Abyss, but I hadn't watched it in many years. That would be awesome to see in high def.

Yeah, I've bought a lot from Deep Discount too. I'm afraid you just missed out on their 25% off sale though. They have big sales like that every November and spring. Makes their good prices even better.

I just purchased a Blu-Ray a couple of months ago and can't say enough about it. The discs are amazing (I currently have Iron Man and Indiana Jones IV) but picked up Transformers at Best Buy on Black Friday for $9.99 bought my youngest son Kung Fu Panda for $16.99. I wanted to buy my older son and daughter each a blu-ray for Christmas. Amazon has a deal right now Narnia Prince Caspian + Chronicles of Narnia Blu-Ray for $37.99 and I'll probably pick up Batman next week for my older son.

I would purchase more but at $27 a pop, the movie better be spectacular before I drop that kind of money. I'm hoping that prices will drop soon since Blu-Ray is now the standard format and it sounds like more and more people are buying Blu-Ray players.

BTW, the upconversion feature works really well. You might want to check out some of your current dvd's before replacing them. I have yet to purchase an older movie on Blu-Ray but right now I have my doubts that there is much of a difference between a standard dvd version being upconverted vs. a blu ray format. Maybe someone who has some older movies can speak to that part of it.

For older movies, it's really hit or miss. Some look stunning in hi def, far better looking than the regular DVD version (eg. CASABLANCA, THE SEARCHERS, 2001) while others are a much smaller improvement over standard DVD. Newer releases generally look very, very good (but botched transfers happen once in awhile). It pays to check out the review websites before buying.

I'm just wondering when the blu-rays will start hitting my buy price of around $15. I don't mind spending that much on a dvd especially since I only purchase the ones I will watch multiple times (otherwise I rent). But $26.99 is pretty hard to stomach. I have purchased a few since it didn't seem right to have a Blu-ray player without any DVD's but so far, I only own a few.
