Did You Get Your Vacination ? ... More 70's talk

I brought up this subject a few years ago, but I thought i'd revisit it for the newer people ....

    The dread 70's era Vacination

You couldn't go to school without it.

What is it you ask ?

Imagine a giant thing that resembles an 1800's era Gatling gun.

It's got like 20 needles on it .........

They put it against your upper arm and pull the trigger.

That's when the fun begins ......

It injects these needles one after another automatically giving you at least 10-20 seconds of pure unadulterated pain.

    It's literally pure hell.

When finished, you're left with a huge bruse on your arms that lasts about 3 months.

After that, the scar never goes away.

To this day, EVERY ONE of us who had a Vacination still carries our physical wound.

A few years after I had mine, they stopped doing it.

    So,
I guess this is actually a "how old are you" question ..........

Did you have a Vacination ?

I'm not sure, but I think they stopped doing it sometime between 1971 and 1973

Although smallpox vaccination ended in the United States in 1972 because it was no longer needed for prevention, the U.S. military resumed vaccination of at-risk personnel in 1999, after concluding that the disease posed a potential bioterrorism threat.

I started Kindergarten in 1973 and missed out on it. No scar for me.

Oh I vividly remember that. There was a big line snaking down through the school auditorium. I remember that needle gun too. I was terrified of needles (ok still am, LOL)

I have it and yes it is a small pox vaccination.

I have no memory of receiving it and just assumed it was given to me when I was an infant.

I think you're remembering the "booster shots"

The actual vacination shot you couldn't start school unless you had it first.

The booster shots in school used the gun-needle.

They did them every few years ... The name rubella shot or rubella booster shot keeps coming to mind.

I'm too young for that. My wife has one because they didn't stop using them in her country for a long time.

Could be, but this was in the elementary school I went to and it was in the summer when the school wasn't open yet so may have been either or.

They were still giving these in Western Canada into the mid seventies (74 or 75). My arm still hurts when it rains

I just missed the big *** scar thing. I do remember various others during the early 70's at school.
