Neil Gaiman's Sandman

My wife wants these, but isn't sure where to start. Is Absolute Sandman worth getting, or should I buy her the individual graphic novels?

There are four of the Absolutes and I think 11 of the graphic novels.

Any advice?

The Absolutes are always better, not sure about the publishing order.
