    Just saw Quantum of Solace

It was better than I thought it was going to be since I had only seen ho-hum reviews, but there was one thing missing for me (possible spoiler?)

There was no Q character and no gadgets. They didn't need to be wacky remote controlled cars or anything, but just at least a pen grenade or something would have made it more 007-y to me.
    It's all good!

my bro in law saw it and he was quite disappointed with it. he said that there was lots of action but just for the sake of action. it didnt quite make sense for him.

Sorry to disagree, but I liked it a lot.
It's just a good spy story, with lots of action.

OK, it didn't have supercars and gadgets, but that's what people were staring to get fed up with after the previous Bonds.

OK, I wouldn't have minded the odd gadget pen or something, but it didn't need it.

And true, it doesn't have a bad guy with a scar and white cat in a secret mountain lair, threatening to blow up London, but again, we wanted a new Bond, and this is it.

This is Ian Fleming Bond. Not "Hey, I'm Roger Moore, and I'm driving my hovercraft gondola across Venice Square and I defeat my enemies with a raised eyebrow and a joke."

I liked it. I also liked the older Bond (Dr.No to Spy Who Loved me). I kind of stopped watching when it all got too silly.
Give it a chance, and think outside the box, not with "Old Bond" in mind....

PS: the story itself is very relevant these days, with water supplies actually becoming more valuable than oil and diamonds. You can hold countries for ransom if you control the water supply. It's a comment of recent events.

And did you notice the Goldfinger tribute?
Bond sleeps with a girl, only to find her dead on the bed, naked, but covered with....oil....

I pretty much agree with GornCap here. I really liked it. My GF always thought past Bonds were stupid or boring, but she watched Casino with me and it really grabbed her. I think she was more excited about Quantum than I was. I'm a long time Bond fan but I was getting pretty turned off by the last couple with Pierce. Not so much him, but the awful writing.
I like Daniel Craig, he has a great look. I liked the story, and the increased role M played, (love Judy D. also). It's a fresh approach to a classic character and it works for me. Yeah, no Q. They could've snuck in something as there are plenty of real world gadgets that aren't all silly like Roger's stuff. I look forward to more done in this style, and I hope Craig is up to it.

Quantum is Excellent Sequel to Casino. Tons of action,Loads of fighting,Beautiful Women and Exotic locals. All Bond Elements. This Bond is set towards a little more realistic approach to Bond. I like how S.p.e.c.t.r.e is being slowly introduced. This Bond seriously looks like he can beat the ****! out of the Bad guys very much like Connery did.

Hence no silly stories stupid gadgets and villans with a more realistic approach. very much like the Fleming books.

Since this is a reboot Q (QuarterMaster) is not being used. Now realise this Q is a character that appears very little in the novels. He was mostly used in the movies.

In the movies Bond was always about showing wild gadgets or advertising the latest gear for the GQ man.

I personally thought Bond had gotten really silly and a bit far fetched. This Bond is the version nearest to Flemings version of Bond.

The gadgets may come as long as Craig keeps doing Bond and Q may be introduced but not the way past Bonds movies used him.

I think that's why this Bond will be Unique and has injected the most excitement in years.

The last Bond movie I loved. I don't think you need a ton of gadgets to make it a Bond flick.

I've never seen CR or QOS.

I heard there's no more "gun barrel" openings in these movies.

              Is that true ?

              If so, that sux

To me, the description above IS James Bond.
              Moore was Fantastic.
              Loved him bigtime ......
Live and Let Die was the first Bond movie I ever seen in the theatre.

I thought the same but the producers are trying for this Bond to be slighty different....Hopefully now that they have it they'll use it at the beginning of future movies.

I personally loved these two last movies. Craig is the BEST bond IMO...even more so than Connery (and I loved Connery).

if you've ever read an Ian Flemming Bond novel, you will have to agree that these two flicks are the closest to the novels.

An Quantum is a perfect follow up (even picks up the storyline) to Casino Royale.

If you like classic Bond, go see it.

I interpreted gun barrel at the ending as them saying (and I'll try to say this without giving away the ending) after all that happened in CR and QOS, now he has become the James Bond we knew/know.

As I mentioned when I started the thread. I enjoyed it. I just like me some gadgets

Exactly. This was an origin story. Bond gets his licence to kill early in part one. Why he became someone who is pretty detached from emotions, and women in particular (being betrayed by the woman he loves). And at the end, he really is a OO, hence the gun barrel ending.
I think that in the next part, we'll see the gun barrel at the start, and maybe a gadget or two. But nothing more is needed. Let's not go back to the past, we've seen that already.
