Anyone else remember when Thanksgiving was giant monkey day ?

Perhaps this was a local thing -- and it probably was, but I miss the old days when every Thanksgiving was giant monkey day.

One of our TV stations used to play King Kong, Son of Kong and Mighty Joe Young like clockwork every Thanksgiving thoughout the entire 70's.

It made me always associate Thanksgiving with giant apes

    I miss those days

That's why it's great to live in the DVD Age. All three of those movies were included in the semi-recent King Kong set. It might not be the same for you without all the commercial interruptions, but now you can hit pause when you gotta make a bathroom run or go to the kitchen for a toikey sammich

Ity was alomost a tradition here. we'd go to my grandparents, eat and almost every time you'd find yourself upstairs after, resting off some of that turkey in front of the TV with King Kong.

Funny you should mention that. When I came home from work a few hours ago I noted that Mighty Joe young the original was on.
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
      Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

Ya know. I don't think I've ever seen Son of Kong. If I did. I've put it out of my mind.
        It's all good!

In Illinois there was a station from Iowa we could pick up that had Godzilla day for Thanksgiving.

I wonder if that's why Fox decided to put on Channel of the Apes this Thanksgiving weekend??

"King Kong" and "Mighty Joe Young" are as much a part of Thanksgiving to me
as Turkey is!! I grew up watching them on WOR. Some years they'd toss in
"Son of Kong" too. Great stuff. Now I watch them on DVD.

Channel 11 in New York use to run the Laurel and Hardy classic "March of the
Wooden Soldiers" (aka "Babes in Toyland") around this time of year. More great memories.

I actually remember watching "Mighty Joe Young" for the first time when I was four years old. The reason my memory is so vivid is because I thought
it was a true story. I asked my dad if it was true and I don't know if he didn't
understand what I was asking or if he saw that I thought it was true and
didn't want to burst my bubble. Around age seven I no longer believed it and
some of the magic of the film died then for me. Joe Young was easy to believe
because he wasn't as big as Kong. I still love the movie though.
