Question about the rate at which music is played on the air

I don't own many CD's so it's hard for me to compare ... but I was wondering something...

I mostly get my listening music from 2 sources ... The radio and my cable upper music channels (not video channels ie MTV VH1 etc.)

What i've noticed is the music TV channels seem to play songs a bit slower then the radio stations.
They almost sound too slow.

After a time, I began to wonder if the songs on TV were in fact being played at correct speed --- and has the radio stations been speeding their up slowly over the years ?

Any opinion on this ?

I don't know about slower,but the songs on the radio are shorter for sure.Atleast here

I've never Noticed that Before. I usually Listen to the radio at work and XM Radio in my Car and at Home. Now I'm going to be Paying Even way More attention

Most tracks on the radio are digital now (like how one would have an MP3) so when playing back it is possible to program the songs to play back faster yet adjust the key so that it doesn't sound sped up. I've done this on my computer just for fun mixing songs together. I don't know if this is actually standard practice anywhere, but if someone did do that, you could just tweak an 18 minute set to fit an extra 30 second commercial in and technically not know the difference.
