Well, my doctor told me I have too much blood volume and that I should donate blood. I went to donate today and was told that I cannot because I have too much iron. Too much iron can cause all sorts of bad stuff, including fatigue, which may explain why I am tired all of the time.
So now I have to go to a special blood donation place, after I get a note from my doctor. Oy vey.--

If this is indeed true (family history) then by all means, have a colonoscopy. They aren't that bad (i've had three). Because of my family history I had one at age 37 and they found something. If I had waited until I was 50 (the age they recommend if you have no family history) I woulda most definitely had full blown colon cancer.....Colon cancer is actually highly preventable (and curable) if you are routinely screened.....

Since I lack a colon, it's harder for my body to absob nutrients and liquids...that's why I have to drink lots of water and take massive amounts of supplements which includes taking Ferrous Sulfate iron pills everyday for the rest of my life.
I'm sooooooo lucky!

John, Glad all is well now. And don't use the term "fat" i like to think of you as cuddly.
I had to hit the doc for the midlife your body is falling apart physical because my stupid dad, uncle and maternal grandpa all had prostate cancer. No cancer yet but it is large according to my doc.
And I have been fortunate enough to develope asthma. -as the stones say "what a drag it is getting old."Comment

Finally got the blood work today and now am just waiting for the results.
I talked to the doctor about the colonoscopy and she told me to check with my mom to find out when the family members were all diagnosed. I found out they were all in their 60's before it occurred so she didn't think it was necessary until I turn 50 but I have an older brother who had one done so I'm going to ask him more about it.
So far so good. The doctor was impressed with my weight and even though I think I could stand to lose another 15 lbs., she said that I don't need to lose another pound since I have a broader shoulders than the average person. She said if I was really insistent on dropping anymore don't do more than 5 lbs....otherwise it might be unhealthy...that made me feel good since I am not scrawny at all...just fit.
Blood pressure was really good 100/76 which she said was basically the blood pressure of an athlete LOL. I do play a little soccer but definitely need to do more excercise.
The only thing I think that might be an issue is cholesterol but we'll wait and see. I have always been on the border with my saving grace being that my HDL (good cholesterol) is high (over 50) which offsets some of the LDL.
This is definitely a good reminder that all of us should go make sure things are ok. I think I am in the average age of most people on this board (just turned 40 this year) and now more than ever; it's important to get the annual checkup."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
