I think someone else mentioned this before, but scanning the radio today I came upon the song "Call Me" and the bridge to that song really does sound like the newer version of the Dr. Who theme. It's the background beat that I think does it.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I didn't necessarily mean just the current version when I said "newer." I should have said later versions like Peter Davison onward.

As all the varients on the who theme are from the same source material ....Ron Grainers theme back in 1963....first realised by Delia derbyshire in the radiophonic workshop.....it's proberly a good bet that this was prior to Blondie's 'Call me'.ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF ITBritish by birth....English by the grace of God.
