Stupid Internets....

So;

Earlier today my computer got whacked with a particularly effective virus. I don't get them too often, since I don't visit too many sites (although a couple of years back some stupid bot kept MAILING me one....) and my software usually catches them BUT it couldn't deal with "agent.AHRN."

This is a good one that pretty much takes out your entire system. I'd get a "WARNING: Your System is Infected!" notice, then it'd reboot. Repeat ad nauseum. So I did a complete reformat of my system. Which wasn't so bad since it gave me some experience reinstalling stuff on the new computer (you may recalll the old one was 12 years old) and I got to do away with all the stuff I don't use that got installed before I bought it.

So has anyone ELSE run into this virus?

Hmmmm....

For me it's not a real big deal. I keep all my data on external disks so the only real pain is downloading all the updates for my software. (I'm still on dial up.)

I was surprised at how effective this virus was. Looking it up it's listed as one of them "don't even mention the name.... it'll find you!" level threats.

Dunno where I got it, but I was at superdickery.com and it hit while one of the ads were downloading. Hidden in the ad maybe?

Thats why I run Linux PCs. No virus spyware etc...
