    fastest police car ever

    The new Lamborghini Polizia:
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ni_Polizia.JPG

You have to admit, that is one cool cop car.
Going up to 210 mph, I think it'll come in handy in a pursuit situation....

It looks cool, but in the US it wouldn't fly.

Most police chases here are very restrained (unlike you see in the movies)

Cops just radio to the next cop down the road (who's there waiting for the nasty)

Very cool, but not needed, here anyway.

We had a local city police officer die last week while pursuing a vehicle. He was chasing a car at over 100 miles per hour and apparently came to a spot along the road that isn't very forgiving at that speed and hit a tree.

A friend of mine who is on the same police force told me that there is some type of police term they use when they hit triple digits while chasing cars (I think he called it terminal speed) meaning that the cars are very unforgiving around even slight bends in the road and that you can pretty much kiss your life goodbye if you happen to crash at that kind of speed.

He said that it is amazing the difference in taking a slight turn at say 80 or 90 miles an hour vs. 100 miles an hour. He told me he was chasing someone once at the 100+ MPH and as he hit a slight turn on the highway, he took his car all the way in to the center guardrail and the centrifugal force pushed him almost out to the outer guardrail at that speed.

Interesting, but that leaves me with a question .....

Can they prosecute the runner for at least manslaughter ?

Or, can it be argued the cop was going too fast and his death was soley his own fault ?

          BTW,

My father was a cop many years ago, but he didn't get car or a gun.

He was only issued a parking ticket book and a pencil

Being a fan of fast cars, and my love for speed.I have been guilty of going well over 100 many times,I can tell you that while it is a rush,it's also scary as hell!!

I only went over 100 MPH one time.

A few years ago I was driving through Wyoming and there was miles and miles on nothing ... So I gave it a shot.
When I hit 101 I chicken out and slowed down.

Alabama State Troopers used to have souped up Mustangs for interceptor cars, but they turned into too much of a liability

In NW Jersey and NE PA, the Troopers mostly have regular cars ... but most of the town cops have SUV's and a few Suburban's

This car is most likely for show. Some police departments get a car like this and it generally makes the car show rounds. First, they're way too expensive for most municipalities (even if its a domestic as it would be in Italy) and second, most cops couldn't handle that much speed.

Stiil, if I saw that bad boy in my rear view, there's be no question I would pull over!

It definitely differs from state-to-state, but there are usually ways to charge the runner. The only argument against it it when the officer has violated local policy to continue a chase. A lot of places have come up with specific policies after a few chases ended with the deaths of innocent bystanders. It has become a very sensitive issue. Usually police will not chase for very long unless the runner presents "an immediate threat" to the community of the police. (based on why he was pulled over, the danger involved in his speeding away or if he's wanted for a violent crime) Police also differentiate between a chase and "legal pursuit." Usually the latter involves following and radioing ahead to try and track the runner or setting up barricades or laying down "stop sticks." BTW, almost all pursuits end with the arrest of the runner. Very few get away.
