I was listening to the radio and heard that Metallica was coming. Since I am a fan I got excited. At the very end of the ad, the announcer said "Tickets are $70 plus a handling and convenience charge". I said to myself, a convenience charge, what the heck is that. Tickets are already nuts without them nickle and diming you. Can anyone explain a conveinence charge to me??

From wiki
With respect to events tickets, online reservations and payments, and other transactions, there is sometimes a service charge (often called a convenience fee) that serves as additional compensation for the company facilitating the transaction. Ticketmaster and others charge this, and have made a business model of it. However, such groups have a monopoly on particular events or even entire concert venues.

I thought maybe it had something to do with an actual convenience such as not having to stand in line.
Do they even have ticketmaster outlets like the old days where you would stand in line sometimes for hours or overnight to try to get tickets or is it exclusively the internet now?"The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Convenience charges are pretty common over here. And $70 is normal for a band like Metallica. hell, I even paid more for my tickets. You can even find 'em on eBay sometimes for $300 or more.
They're coming in March and I ordered my tickets many weeks ago, but I'm still waiting for them. yesterday it was announced that we'll have to wait even longer because they wnna crack down on people who sell fake tickets (it's a plague here). Some months ago a website was selling tickets for a U2 concert... only problem was that U2 wasn't touring and there would be no concert. And still people bought tickets at crazy prices."...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

Metallica still rocks and the new record sound like back in the day. They lost themselves for a while.I believe they will be on tour for two years. But overall the convience charge sucks. I just bought yesterday three pre ordered wrestlemania tickets for houston @ $150 and service charge was $30 each for $540 total. O'well you got to pay, everyone whats a piece of the pie. So ninety bucks for service charges on three tickets.Comment
