You might not be a fan...you might not even remember his name...but you certainly have seen him in movies, Gladiator (as the emperor), Walk the Line (as Johnny Cash), Signs (Mel Gibson's brother), The Village (the lead guy who finally leaves the village), etc...

Honestly, I never seen Gladiator, Signs or The Village.

Why not quietly just stop acting...do your music thing...and if that doesn't work...quietly come back to acting...simple as that.

Dude, that is exactly what I thought when I read the announcement. Just don't make another movie until you want to. It's much cooler and more mysterious. If you're concerned about "buzz", there would be much more of it over the long-haul if you just played it close to the vest. People will talk in the absence of knowing what is going on.

I had to turn it off about half way through.
Boring as hell, imo

Were you serious you've never heard of him? I thought it was a joke. His sister's name is Summer, so yeah they probably were on some drugs. River OD'd. Summer is married to Ben Affleck's little brother Casey. I'm not a big fan but he was incredible in Walk the Line. Nailed it like no one else could. Probably due to his attraction to music once he learned to play for the part. Does seem kinda like he's marketing his music persona, a bit, but if I was financially independent I would walk away from my job too and do something I liked more. I don't think it really matters if he makes any money from it, he's probably good on the rent money for a while. It's not like some record company won't throw a boat load of cash at him to make at least one album hoping he hits it big.
