Here in Manhattan, most of us do not get to control our heat. We basically have two settings- off and Kenya. We actually control the heat emanating from our decades-old steam radiators by opening and closing windows.WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.Comment

I highly recommend a programmable thermostat if you don't have one; it's $50 well spent. I keep mine at 60 late at night when I'm sleeping and during the day while I'm at work, and at 66 at other times. I'd estimate I've saved probably 20%-25% or more on my gas bill since I put it in.
I have steam radiators, too, and if I turn it much higher than 68-70, it becomes almost unbearably hot in here. Gotta love steam heat.Comment

Hey,
Here in Georgia it does not get as cold as other places, but it can get chilly. We set the thermostat at 62 during the day. However, having a programmable thermostat is great - it goes up to 71 at 6:15 in the morning so the house is toasty when the kids have to get up to go to school, then drops back down to 62 at 8:00 after they have left. Nice to have a warm house to wake up to without keeping it hot all day.
