    Siskel and Ebert reviews

The show was cancelled this year and of course hasn't been the same since Gene Siskel died. I haven't watched in years. But growing up back in the day I always made time to see it (Saturdays at 6:30). It was one of the few places you could see this kind of stuff and I always enjoyed listening to them.

I was struck by how long this review of Return of the Jedi was---the clips go on for several minutes! Fox must've given them everything. I would have been eating this up for sure.

I watch the old reviews all the time, only at their site

    At the Movies

..which appears to be somewhat altered now in archive capacity since Ebert and Roeper left the show this past summer. I know Ebert hasn't been on the show in a couple years because of his health issues, but he was still affiliated with it.

I grew up first watching Sneak Previews (with Siskel and Ebert) on PBS, and followed all the new show incarnations into my adulthood. I also greatly missed Siskel, but came to enjoy the most recent pairing of Roeper and Michael Phillips.

The new At the Movies team is pretty.. blah. No chemistry.

I guess Ebert and Roeper are working on the development of their own show..

I first started watching them on Sneak Previews too. I really miss the interplay between Siskel and Ebert. They had a chemistry that couldn't be matched after Siskel passed away.

That's a good website, I didn't realize they had that online archive. Bravo.

Scott, if I remember correctly this ROTJ review was a whole 30 minute episode of S&E at the movies. That's probably why the clips go on pretty long. They may have spent the earlier part of the episode re-capping the 2 earlier SW films. I remember being a bit depressed seeing this review when it came out thinking it was all over.

I never cared much for Ebert.
He seemed to have liked almost everything I hated, and vice versa

Here's a bit of trivia.. whenever Ebert closed the show with his signature, "And until then, the balcony is closed", he would turn back to Siskel,, who would immediately start talking to Ebert as if making an emphatic hand-gesturing point about something. Of course we couldn't hear it, since they were no longer miked and the closing music was playing, quickly followed by the credits.

Siskel revealed towards the end of his run that what he was saying during all of those times was, "And blah, and blah, and blah."

                Fascinating, huh?
