    Life on Mars

There may be another thread already started on this show...I couldn't find it.

Really, really good show. Really takes me back to my childhood - especially the looks/clothing/feel/music of the times of 1973.

Hoping in some future episode a Mego shows up.

    Anyone else catching this series?

Yeah, I'm really liking this show too. I kinda expected to NOT like it because I enjoyed the original BBC version so much, but it's really very good. Glad to see they've sprung for the cash to use a lot of the era songs throughout, it adds a lot to the feel.

Harvey Keitel as Gene Hunt is toned down just a hair from the original, but he's great.

Bet you were hoping there were old GIJoes in that box, huh?

^^^ Yup! My heart started pounding....

I never saw the BBC show, but heard lots about it. I really like all the characters, especially the Keitel character. He plays the guy PERFECTLY..

Yep, catching the show, too. I like the looks and feel of the atmosphere on the show. Makes you think how the times have really changed!

Yeah, I was looking forward to seeing Joes in the box! Maybe next time.

The only thing I wish there was a bit more of is some on-street or in a store stuff...like maybe seeing Sam catch lunch at a 70S era McDonalds or BK with all that kinda of signage, the little paper lieutenant hats on the counter help (surely there's one out there using that as a theme)...or seeing a spinner rack of comics in a corner store...or a guest shot from some 70S star. Really all you see is the cars & clothes, which are pretty easily found.

Hoping there will be an episode or two that does not touch on the "Why is Sam here bit?" and is just a straight up cop episode. But it looks like they are going to follow the Brit series episode for episode (wait for the wife-swapping show). The ending with the kid & his Dad last night mirrored the original (trading out the Knicks for the local soccer-sorry, football- team). The BBC series only ran the 2 seasons and had an ending of sorts, so if this one does well, maybe there will be some different themes or it will go in a diffferent direction.

By the way, here's a link to the ABC website, which is really pretty great...they have a streaming 70S radio, a great PONG/Trivia game, and you can watch the full episodes. This should have a link on PlaidStallions (if it doesn't already).

Has anyone ever seen the BBC spinoff with Gene Hunt in the 80S?

I'm ashamed to admit, I love the Brit verson, but never caught the American one yet.

Are the stories the same ?

This show is quickly becoming my favourite hour on tv. I wish they would stop trying to force in pop culture references but it has such a wonderful dream like quality.

Somebody involved with Life on Mars contacted the Museum over the summer and was very interested in all things mego. We may see some vintage toys just yet.
