I've seen this before, very weird. I did kinda like the "serious tone" of it though. I agree, he was ok & the guy who auditioned for Robin was really bad.
Lyle Wagner could have been pretty good. I guess I'm more used and accustomed to Adam West. Burt Ward nailed it as Robin. This kid was kinda dorky.
I'm surprised that they never brought Wagner back. He would have been great as any character - maybe DA Harvey Dent? But they went with False Face instead of Two-Face. What were they thinking?
when i watched them as a kid i didn't know west was terrible or that it was a spoof.
now i long for a more serious show.
watching the other characters - no one played it as campy as west - unless it was a villain who's character was a little off.
i agree burt nailed the robin part. this kid in the audition looked the part but had the voice of a RADIO robin - overly childish to get the point across that he was smaller and younger than batman. my 4yo daughter was watching this audition with me and asked "why does robin sound like a girl?" he also struggled to deliver lines.
The West screen test has him playing it more straight as well. I'm not sure they had figured out the level of parody they ended up with at this point. Lyle Waggoner got his revenge in that "Back to the Batcave" movie a few years back.
Although I really like Lyle Waggoner, I think Adam West was a much better Batman.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
This is my third time seeing this footage...and wow...Wagner's body is dead on Batman...the guy was in great shape...West on the other hand had no body...he was just skinny with absolutely no muscle definition whatsoever.
Lyle Wagner wins hands down on the look of Batman...but West wins in the voice department.
That's pretty cool. If they would have done a serious batman Lyle would have been great....I remember Peter Deyell from an episode of Lost in Space and I think he was also in an episode of the Adventures of Superman.
