    1st Action Figure?

I posted this a couple years ago (may have been on the old forum) and still have not found too much(actually nothing) on it.

It came from a 175 year old house in Houma, LA. I found it stuck up in the attic, along with an elephant made the same way.

I am guessing it is a "Johnny Reb", and he looks like he once carried a rifle. There is a name on his leg on a paper label. I forget what the name is, and he is buried some where in one of many boxes after I moved.

    What do you think?

If it didn't have the paper label with a name on it, I would say it is homemade as well. If this thing is over 100 years old (and I don't doubt it), the hardware (washers, cotter pins) were not readily available and this thing was cut with a jigsaw (or most likely a table band saw), which was also hard to come by back then.

dang ... I'd like to see that guy make it past the government safty standards.

I have seen somthing like it before ... but no clue about info on it. The one I saw was kind of like that but maybe not a soldier.

it's been like 10 years ago that I saw it. It was being sold at a small flea market and it had strings tied around it's wrists and ankles and was used like a puppet... I have no idea if it's the same thing as you have here ... but the same basic idea. The lady at the flea market wanted like $75

It looks like part of a small wind charm that was probably on a farm. Not an actual play toy.

Doesn't necessarily have to be Civil War era to feature that style of uniform- those were around for quite a while...
