Even My Halloween Decorations Are Retro

JUst needed to share some holiday geekery. I hit a few antique/flea markets and finally found a decoration I've wanted for some time-

Its hard to describe this other than to say its made of plastic chips, melted together. I also picked up a ghost and a witch. I realize they're kind of ugly, but they really brought back some nostalgic warmth.

They also go great with my plastic pumpkins-

    Blow mold lights-

and my old school cardboard flats-

Love this stuff. We had that blow molded light on the left and those exact cardboard flats when I was grwoing up. They, along with some other stuff, came out every Halloween. My mom gave it all to me when I grew up.

Neat stuff Bill. I've heard that stuff (melted plastic) called popcorn art. I have a Cap and Snoopy one of those somewhere around here.

My family lost all our vintage Christmas and Halloween decorations in a basement flood last year. I'm really going to miss them, they had a certain smell that just brought back so many memories. I really wish my ma had of tried to salvage the plastic stuff but unfortunately she just tossed the whole lot. It's cool you've still got yours.

That really sucks about the flood. BTW, I do not have the originals from youth (in fact, these pics are ones I lifted of items that match the ones I have). I've picked these up over the years (sans cool, old smell). we moved 13 times by the time I was 15, so we lost most everythig as we moved. I'm sure it's part of what drives me to nostalgia, the stability and all that, but its something that I think over-analysis would take the fun from.

I've had that popcorn art pumpkin since I was a little kid.. it was always on our front door come Halloween time when I was growing up. And I have two of the pumpkin lamp on the right, and have seen it several other times at assorted antique shows. They must've cranked out a bunch of those in the northeast.

The old vintage Halloween stuff is just the best. I think I like it even more than vintage Christmas..

My mom was never really into Halloween, so we never decorated the house, but, I do remember those cardboard cut-outs from school. I'm making up for it though, Yesterday, I decorated the windows w/ glowing window clings and I have a Hallmark BOO felt hang-up for the front door. I also got this cool LED pumpkin from Walgreens that flashes, blinks and changes colors to yellow to orange to red. Very cool.

Oh man, those are great. I really need to go through things at my dad's house. I'm sure all our old Halloween decorations (including the "Ghost Rider"-like skull) are still there.

We had a Santa Claus made of those melted plastic pieces for years. Those things were pretty popular for a while.

I have a set of flat monster heads I put up in the windows this year. I've had them over 10 years now. A very Hammer-like Dracula and a pretty creepy Werewolf. The Frankenstein is oddly humorous, and then there is a disturbing Grim Reaper. I also picked up some licensed Universal Frankenstein monster (Karloff) and Dracula (Lugosi) flat busts last year. They are in our living room windows this year.

Coolness, I spied a display at an antique mall recently but was in such a hurry that I forgot to double back. I'm jealous of these great finds.
