I wish they had made a fantastic four movie when the Professor could have played Reed.

    Chapelle as Gilligan - perfect!

Just get the guys who played Steve Urkel and Carl Winslow to be Gilligan and The Skipper... They were the 90s versions of those guys anyway (the same way Bob Denver and Alan Hale were the 60s versions of Laurel and Hardy).

Anyone else ever think the last couple of movies were pilots for another Gilligan series?

Actually, there was three TV Movies and the Filmation Cartoon Series Gilligan's Planet. The first movie was Rescue. The second was when they built the plane and started the resort. The third took place at the resort and guest star the Harlem Globetrotters manage by Scatman Crothers, (Louie the Garbage Man from Chico and the Man and the voice of Hanna Barbera's Hong Kong Phooney). The last movie interduced the character of Thurston Howell the fourth. Jim Backuss, (Thurson Howell the third), does make a guess appearance at the end.

Unless you put her on an island by herself, Tyra Banks couldn't be in it cause she's certifiably insane.

Hate to say, much as I hate those types of updates, it really sounds like a COOL idea.

Let's redo it with an all-black cast like they did with the New Odd Couple tv series & Honeymooners movie years ago.

    Gilligan: Dave Chappelle

    Skipper: Cedric the Entertainer

    Mr. Howell: Richard Roundtree

    Mrs. Howell: Diahann Carroll

    Ginger: Halle Berry

    Professor: Isaiah Washington

    Mary-Ann: Tyra Banks

    LOL

Didn't Cedric The Entertainer die a couple months ago?

    edit:
Never mind, that was Bernie Mac, just Googled it.

Ok, just switch Halle & Tyra then. I can picture either of them doing either role if the height is your stickler. Tyra can be a diva (umm..big stretch there lol) and Halle can surely play a wholesome (buxom) farm girl.
I cant picture Jada because of her urban personality but hey this is all fantasy anyway so why not?
Did you like how I tried to find pictures of the actors that fit their character? I mean you couldn't have asked for a better pic for Mrs. Howell. LOL

For Mary Ann you need a petite actress...and the first one that comes to mind is Jada Pinkett Smith...

In the past few years their have been two Gilligan film projects in the works. Both fell apart, whether it be from financing falling thru, or disagreements between the the creator and the producers.
The first was due to be filmed as soon as Seinfield ended production, Julia Louis Dreyfuss was to play Mary Ann, and Tom Barr was the skipper.....dont remember the rest of the cast, but luckily this version shut down before it got started becouse Sherwood Schwartz didnt like the plot ....plot?...in a Gilligan movie?
A second film version was put together a few years later with the weird guy from 3Rd Rock From the Sun playing Gilligan, and as Tbolt mentioned, Chris Farley up for the Skipper. I cant remember who was up for Ginger, but she was uber popular at the time...obviously not so much now. The financing was pulled on this version when Farley died.

Myself, I think if they have to do yet another remake, they should do it as a tv movie. I like Jays casting of the King of Queens guy as the skipper. Not sure who could pull off Gilligan these days....but I agree William Shatner should play Mr. Howell.

NO. . . . .I just heard on the TV this morning that they are looking at doing a Gilligans Island remake.

    Start your Casting Here:

Gilligan : Keanu Reeves (obvious I Know)!
    Skipper : Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Professor : Will Smith or Sylverster Stallone (can't decide. . .it is a tough one).
Mr Howl : William Shatner or Jim Carey (again it's a toss up)
Mrs Howl : Jean Claude Van Damn (yes you heard that right) PROBABLY Will Farrel though!
Ginger : Ginger Spice (Gerry Hallywell)
Maryanne : Sandra Bullock (That ones for YOU Coach!)

OR. . . if they are doing Land of the Lost as a Comedy. . .will they do Gilligans Island as a dramatic character driven piece?????
LOL. . . Keanu was my idea. . .but then I was only joking!!

Well..."a bird in the hand" (aka name recognition)....

Maybe eventually they'll discard that philosophy and use the many, many
original ideas that sit on shelves---they have them---they've even
PAID for them for fear of someone else cashing in.

As more and more indy studios pop up, more and more original ideas will
    be presented to the public.

Yep---because in the distant long ago sixties everybody
was suckered into believing that you could power things with coconut water
and that hot water pipes could be fashioned out of bamboo....

    ahem...

In all seriousness... GILLIGAN'S ISLAND was a live action cartoon in it's
context of reality---and that adds to it's timelessness.

A remake would be cool...but as has been proven in the past, remakes are
    a hard nut to crack.
