Star Spangled Banner by Marvin Gaye at 1983 NBA All-Star Game
Marvin, he was a friend of mine
And he could sing a song, his heart in every line
Marvin, sang of the joy and pain
He opened up our minds, and I still can hear him say
Aw talk to me so you can see what's going on
Say you will sing your songs forevermore (evermore)
Gonna be some sweet sounds coming down on the nightshift
I bet you're singing proud, oh I bet you'll pull a crowd
Gonna be a long night, it's gonna be all right on the nightshift
Oh you found another home, I know you're not alone on the nightshift
Sorry, gotta disagree with everyone here. I cannot stand my national anthem changed up, ghetto-fied, country hick-fied, etc.
The national anthem is a song written by a human..not God singing from the Heavens.
I love the Marvin Gaye and the Whitney Houston versions...yes...they are both different yet both very spiritual and soulful in their own right.
I also love the Jimmy Hendrix guitar riff rendition...it's awesome.
I love that people get creative and have fun as opposed to be all traditionalist about everything...the world is about progression and not being stagnant.

Like I said, I got to disagree. Get creative with 1000's of other songs, art, etc, but leave my national anthem alone.
My band is working up a version of TSSB and, it will be rearranged
so that a punkish/rockish/metalish band like ours can feel comfortable doing it----
Not a big fan of the song---but I am a fan of where I live---so I'd
like to make TSSB more to my liking---that's what covering a song is all about
----you redo it---in your own way---so that YOU can enjoy it---
and hopefully that "enjoyment" will be infectious....if not---"oh well"
at least you as a performer feel good about it.
I understand if people are sensitive to it---some people think our cover
of Stairway is blasphemous towards Led Zep----but ya can't please
everybody.
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
