I can't believe I am going to say this, but I really look forward to it every year. I was never an active participant until a few years ago. Now I start planning costumes months in advance. I promised to make my eldest son his costume if he picked out something historical. He will be turning 10, so I believe he is old enough to appreciate a costume I make for him. This is his costume so far, just missing the grieves for his legs, some type of fastener for the shoulders to keep the cape in place, and also a paint job on the plumage of his helmet. He also plans on attending Wondercon in February in costume, so that will be something fun to look forward to as well.
The helmet started out as a vinyl ball which I cut in half and added craft foam to. The cuirass is some type of foam material that I had to hand embroider because the sewing machine kept chewing up the gold fabric.
