    Yves Rossi

    So;

    Did anyon else see this dude crossing the Channel this morning? In a JETPACK?!?! In case you haven't seen what he's flying, go here:

    7 People From Around the World With Real Mutant Superpowers - Page 2 | Cracked.com

    ...or maybe:

    YOJOE.COM | Cobra C.L.A.W. [Covert Light Aerial Weapon]

    Unlike Batman, though
    This guys wings don't create any lift.
    They're basically just stabilizers and hold the rockets.

    It looks to me like it's still the old 60's shelved jetpack with a few modifications to make it look "cooler" and perhaps fly a little farther.

      He doesn't take off and land. They drop him out of an airplane where he unfolds the wings and "flies" for a distance. Then he folds em up and parachutes to the ground. It isn't actually flying, more like "powered gliding" but it's a start. Still extremely cool. Picture the military being able to drop men 10 to 15 minutes from where they want to land, have them fly in under enemy radar and parachute to a location miles from where the enemy thinks they are. It just became a possibility. Still takes huge nads to strap flammable liquid to your back and do something like this.
      It's not a doll it's an action figure.

        >This guys wings don't create any lift.

        I dunno if they do or not. Watching it, it flies like a fixed wing plane, banks like one, and he wasn't losing altitude. The problem with the old packs was that they were pure vectored thrust: they expended a LOT of energy juist to keep you in the air. This thing has the advantage of the wing; it DOES seem to provide lift. Or to compensate for pull. They mentioned he jumps out of the plne so he has some extra time to act in case something goes wrong. The History Channel showed it and they had footage of a flight with one of the engines conking out, and of them catching fire during a wind tunnel test. So yeah; some extra time might not hurt....

        Dunno if it could launch from the ground. It has no landing gear; so it'd probably need some. It flies at almost 200kph; so it MIGHT be able to generate enough lift.

        >Still takes huge nads to strap flammable liquid to your back and do something like this

        The film crew looked REALLY nervous when they were testing the engines. The jets are small; this wing had four that were about the size of a 2l pop bottle. To generate enough thrust to reach 200kph they must use an extremely refined jet fuel.

        .... but, WHY does it look so much like a C.L.A.W.?
