My dang custom mailbox got run into again.

Wrathdemons "theives" thread made me decide to write this.

I don't suspect a criminal element, but I have had my mailbox run into 2x this year, and both times they just drove off. I know there was car damage, and I suspect my neighbors across the way. What ticks me off is that they are neighbors, and had they come clean I wouldn't care. I think they may have backed into it, cause there was a FORD emblem on the ground from the tailgate, and also the tracks went into their lane. (We have long driveways).
And yes they have a FORD truck.

So today, I dug a three foot hole, put in a railroad tie, then a concrete tube form around it up 1/2 way. I filled it with concrete and repaired my box. A 500lb fix. Oddly my neighbors box is mounted on it as well. So I bent that back into shape and remounted them both.
I am not out to hurt anyone, and there is no reason for anyone to be hitting it, but I am sick of replacing the post. I think they are just backing into it somehow but there is a ton of room and it doesn't make sense. Our country road is very slow and quiet, so I don't anticipate any high speed type of collision. Just the occacional bump. If people drive right they won't even come close cause it is totally off the road (as it should be), unless you really screw up. Very odd.

When I was first reading it, I thought that you dug a three foot hole and added tire punctures in the hole, to totally damage the next Ford truck that might come too close to it.

Just make sure it's not too close to the road or the town might complain because it's partially a cement structure.
I'm not sure what the code is, but most towns own 15 feet from the centre of the road out on each side...

There was a bunch of little *******s that used to smash my Grandfather's mailbox when he lived out in the country before he retired from farming.
I remember my dad telling me how they "rebuilt" his new mailbox with a home made metal box with a welded iron pole running through the center and cemented it into the base of the ground.

One night they heard a loud thud and someone screaming, "Oh ****!" and a car sped off. When they investigated it, they noticed the little *******s came back and took a shot at the new mailbox and failed miserably. Not even a dent in the foundation. That was justice.

I think my Dad said they later found an aluminum bat in the weeds not to far from their mailbox but I am not sure.

Jess, that would be a little over the top but I like how you think.

Know how you feel. We had our mailbox vandalized. Luckly the neighborhood punks screwed up committing another crime, and are now rotting in jail.

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

yeah,I see this a lot.Which sucks cause I just bought a really nice custom one.But I've already seen to incidents here where I live. One the woman backed up and hit her neighbors and didn't even realize it or care cause she just drove off

and the 2nd was my old one,the garbage truck hit and kept going..It was a piece of crap and we were told it had to be replaced so i didn't care to much
