    Last game at Yankee statium

I may be a Red Sox fan but I do understand the history that goes with such a historic place. Too bad it has to be torn down.

I'm an Indians fan, and of course I have a deep hatred for the Yanks. But baseball is losing a huge part of its heritage. I can't BELIEVE that they are tearing it down. Build a new stadium--of course you can do that. But it's awful that it has to be destroyed.

I've seen a few baseball games in the Bronx. Wasn't that impressed with the place. If you ask me, I think they are spending a bit too much time and giving too much attention to retiring a ballpark more famous for those who have played there than the place itself. Tiger Stadium in Detroit was a far more interesting ballpark with irregular outfield dimensions, a two-story enclosed outfield, and an upper deck almost directly above the playing field. Yet it closed without much national fanfare in 1999. That place had character, much in the same way Fenway Park and Wrigley Field still do. Yankee Stadium is really only famous because it has played host to one of the most successful franchises in all of sports history. The stadium itself was not impressive. Steinbrenners want more revenue? Tear it down already.

I really don't care for baseball, but as a native New Yorker, but my dad (who had me along sometimes), used to pass the stadium on his way to work. It's sad that it has to be destroyed,

As much as I like Camden Yards, I still miss old Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. It will pretty much be what ever we grew up with, so years from now kids will look upon old Yankee Stadium as we look on Ebbets Field or the Polo grounds. It is a shame that all that history will be a parking lot next year.

Oh, and I also heard a report that they were not letting people into the stadium tonight if they were wearing a tool belt or carrying tools. Would anyone going into Yankee Stadium late on a Sunday think that wearing a tool belt would not be obvious?
                  It's all good!

It's not being turned into a parking lot. The stadium itself will come down, but the playing field is being maintained, and the area is being turned into a park. Green space.

The original Yankee Stadium was of course essentially already torn down when the place was renovated in the mid 70s. Everything was completely gutted except for the base concrete of part of the structure that was easier and more cost effective to build around instead of destroying.

I love how the new Stadium will feature so many architectural elements of the original, which I was never able to see in person. I've been to the "new" Stadium many times, and love the place, but I'm still keen to see the new, true blending of the old and new.

I thought the last nite's festivities were great. Seeing Yogi standing by himself at home plate in that throwback uniform was a memorable sight..

I was an emotional wreck last night watching that game. Being old enough to see the Original and modern version of the stadium I had a rush of memories overtake me.

I still remember how excited i would get when the train would come up and you would see the ball park it would always take my breath away.

I still remember my Dad holding me as I saw my first night game at the old park. i remember how huge the park was and hating the columns cause i couldn't see the game. best of all was watching Bobby Murcer hit a Homerun he was an instant idol for me.

I loved the modern park and all the great games and heartache there. I will sorely miss it....but I look forward to the new park and all the great memories it will have for me and my children and their children
