    Question about Printable CD's/DVD's...

I've recently gotten a new printer that prints up to 13 X 19 and one of it's capabilities is to print on printable CD's/DVD's. My question is this: Does printing directly on CD's/ DVD's have the same affect as paper labels do??? I've been using my Lightscribe Burner and it's great...but having COLOR Print on DVD's and CD's would be better. Paper Labels throw off the DVD's and CD players...and can damage your players. I know that the ink is minimal compared to a matte finish paper label...but will the ink on a printable CD/DVD be enough to throw off the CD Player or DVD Player??? Thanks for any help in this matter.

I use the printable dvd's all the time. The quality rivals store bought dvd's. No illeffects on the dvd players at all.

I have some print on DVD's I got from a good Museum buddy.

They all play and look fantastic

      Not one single complaint.

I use the inkjet printable discs with my printer and have had no problems at all and I've never heard of problems with them. They are much better than paper labels, which as you say, can cause disc "wobble" and damage drives or players. The problem with the labels is that they have to be exactly centered to be balanced, which is almost impossible to do. I don't think the ink on printable discs would cause any balance issues at all. But I would recommend that paper labels NEVER be used for DVDRs. The printable discs look and work great though.

I can't see the ink throwing things off... I have quite a few factory made CDs that have the total surface covered in ink and they never throw anything off... I'm sure you wouldn't be using any more ink on your CDs/DVDs than anything from the factory, so don't worry about them ruining anything...

The weight of the ink on a printable isn't great enough that it would cause the CD or
DVD to spin as wildly as a paper label that is applied off-center. You will be amazed at how crappy your Lightscribe labels look when you compare them to your printed ones.

              Here's a shot of a custom label I made a while ago.

Bare in mind, the large photo in the link is a scan of the printed DVD label -- not the original artwork.

At DVD size, it's amazingly clear

Yeah, that looks good. I've done photo printing like that on to discs and they look near perfect. The Nero DVD burning software even has a program that allows you to design your own disc artwork.

I swear by these discs now, even just to print a quick title or something on my kid's DVDs so we know which is which. It looks much better than me using a magic marker in my bad handwriting.
