Pink Floyd member Richard Wright dies at age 65

LONDON (AP) — A Pink Floyd spokesman says founding member Richard Wright has died. He was 65.

Wright died Monday after a battle with cancer at his home in Britain. His family did not want to give more details about his death. The spokesman is Doug Wright, who is not related to the artist.

Richard Wright met Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and Nick Mason at college and joined their early band Sigma 6.

Sigma 6 eventually became Pink Floyd and Wright wrote and sang some of the band's key songs. He wrote "The Great Gig In The Sky" and "Us And Them" from Pink Floyd's 1973 "The Dark Side Of The Moon."

He left the group in the early 1980s to form his own band but rejoined Pink Floyd for their 1987 album "A Momentary Lapse of Reason."

RIP Richard, See you on the Dark Side of the Moon

Wonder if his illness is why Waters and Gilmour decided against the reunion. Maybe they knew it was a matter of time...
“As human beings we all want to be happy and free from misery… we have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace. The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as anger, attachment, fear and suspicion, while love and compassion and a sense of universal responsibility are the sources of peace and happiness.” - The Dalai Lama

            RIP,

Truly an under-rated musician if there ever was one.

All the Super Musicians of the 60's and 70's are getting up there in age. Years of hard partying will take many of them before they should go. Its sad when they go. Music will never be the same. RIP Richard.

Enjoy every day of your life and live it to the fullest.

                    RIP

Real sad news. My friend called me two hours ago and told me. So the last official Pink Floyd show was Live 8.

To bad they never did anything after The Final Cut.

                    RIP

You know his work even if you don't know who he is. Astronome Domine, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Wish You Were Here, Hell, all of Dark Side of the Moon are the greatest songwriting and keyboards you will hear. Rogers Waters loes to take all of the credit for Floyd's success, but true fans know where the talent in the band really came from Gilmour and Wright. A true talent who will be missed. RIP - Play a set with Sid while you're up there.

I just wish I had seen the Live 8 session in person. The two Floyd concerts I was able to attend during the Delicate Sound of Thunder and Division Bell tours are the two greatest concerts I have ever attended, and probably will ever attend (barring possibly a Led Zepplin Reunion Tour with Bonham's son).
