    Childhood homes

Do your parents still live in yours? Do you ever get the chance to visit or pass by your childhood home?
Mine is about 5 miles from me. It was a great place to grow up being that it was in a new subdivision being built up. Lots of halfway built up houses to play in, lots of wood to swipe to build a clubhouse, lots of kids to play (or fight) with and great roads to ride your bike or skateboard on.
When we first moved into the house we planted 3 small trees in the front yard. Now they're huge. The house has hardly changed except now there's a deck built onto the back area.

    Mine was great.
We didn't own it, we rented it.
It was on a produce/sod farm.
Very cool growing up ..... I had miles of dirt roads to play on and millions of shacks and barns to play in.
My school buds used to always come over because they thought it was disney land
Also, all the free veggies we could eat.
The crop duster guy used to take me up in his plane sometimes.

    It was very cool.

Mine is seriously a 10 minute walk from where I live now. I see it often and cringe. The people who bought it are rather odd hippie types who have let it go terribly. I loved my house. I loved my yard and I still miss it. I remember finding one of my Soldier Ape's gloves under the deck when it was removed about 5 years after I lost it. I'm sure there are some Micronauts still buried in my back yard. My cousin and I used to bury Pharoid in his Time Chamber all over the yard.

I have so many great memories of my house. My Grandfather and I sitting on the porch swing he made under the lilac trees. Every time I smell lilacs, I get flashbacks of sitting under them, playing GI Joe or Megos or sitting with my Grandad. I have lilac trees where I am now and every Spring I get flashbacks. When I buy my new house, I will be planting lilac trees and making a porch swing.

If I could, I would buy it back. I miss it that much.

Mine is about an hour away. My Mother still lives in the town, so sometimes I'm there and drive by the old place. From the outside it looks much the same. New siding, etc... but it hasn't changed that much. It's weird going there. Total flashback.

My parents still own our original home which has gone through several structural changes since I was a kid. A new deck and tearing out a wall to make a bigger dining room. But for me the saddest thing is my Grandparents home.

My Grandfather was an inventor, he built his house from scratch when most of our suburban town was just woods. You cant tell from the outside but he had a thing for the old west. Inside its all log cabin interior, old lantern lights, flag stone fire place (Fake) Crank style phone. Every thing is wired. The lanterns had special flicker lights, the fire place. Every room had like 10 switches that did all kinds of things. There were secret panels for storage rooms. It was great for being a kid. I lived there as a teen when they started to get sick and needed help.

My Grandfather owned most of the street. By the time I lived there he had just a few lots next to him. Alot of grass to be cut and a flagstone cottage that used to be his get away then turned the biggest dog house in history.

After they died. My Mom and her siblings decided to sell the house. Even though it was several times bigger then ours my parents didnt want the up keep. Its a desicion I hate to this day. Its a few blocks from where I live now. And except that the extra lots were sold and built on the house still looks the same.
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
          Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

My family moved about an hour and a half away from where I grew up. I visited my old neighborhood about 5 years back. I even stopped by to see where I grew up. Wow, It changed so much. It had already been close to 10 years since my family had moved. It looked nothing like I remembered. I felt like a stranger. I was so tempted to look in the back yard. While we lived there I had buried a bunch of toys. I went on summer break shortly there after to stay with my dad, I came home only to find a shed built over the spot. I always wondered if anyone will ever find them.

I lived in about 7 different houses by the time I was 18. It's not like my parents had to skip town or anything, they've always stayed in the same general region. It's just that they (well my father at least) always liked "flipping" houses and trying to buy something better each time. But all seven of my "childhood homes" are within a 30 minute drive from me, so I check them out once in a while (except the first one, that one was a rental and I only lived there for the first year of my life so I don't even remember where it is exactly). A couple of them are on "major" roads (well, major for a small town) so I can't help but pass them on my regular travels. When I bought my first house, I vowed not to move as many times as my parents did. We'll see.

I grew up in an apartment, so not much there, but I loved my grandparent's home up in NY. There are times that I wish I could just go up and see what it looks like, but I know I would be disappointed, and in reality, it was my grandparents living there that made it special. My wife still has relatives in the town where one set of grandparents lived and when we visit and go by the house, it is weird not to be able to just walk up and go in.
                    It's all good!

Hey,...there is one advantage to living in a mobile home. I lived in one official house prior to my folks buying a mobile home and I remember the floor plan (to the amazement of all of my relatives). Once they bought the trailer, we lived in it as my Dad moved up the chain. In 1978, my folks bought a permanent dwelling and 30 years later, they still live in it. (It's payed off...yeah for Mom and Dad!!!!).

I still live here with my parents ... we've been in the same house since 1979 my dad built it, and it's just so nice that I figure why move ... unless I have to, or if meet a special girl that I end up giving a ring to.

Tons of fun 2 acres with trails and lots of trees ... we always had dirk bikes and atvs that we could drive around. tons of area to build forts. My friends and I would have awesome hide n seek games.

I grew up in NYC and lived in an apartment building. I have vague memories of the first building on 100th St., but when I was 2 we moved to 158th St. and lived there til I was 13 and we moved to CA. Sometimes I'll have dreams about the old place, esp. my room. I miss that neighborhood. My world was a 3 block radius. Everything was there, my school, church, day camp, 3 grocery stores, toy store, discount store, shoe store, fish market, restaurant. My street hosted a HUGE (city permit needed) block party every summer right before Labor Day. There was always someone outside to play with, I could walk everywhere, (and by myself). And even though we lived on the outskirts of Harlem, our apartment was always nice, tastefully decorated. I had lots of toys, cute clothes, and plenty of food, (unlike some of my friends, sadly enough).

                            Yeah...life was good.

We lived in a small apartment in front of Precita Park in San Francisco. I don't know how it looks now...it's definitely been upgraded because a few years ago they found a burned body on the top floor where we lived. It recently sold for $1M. When we lived there I used to look longingly up at Bernal Heights and think about the apes that lived there, and dream about Ape City.
