Just wanting to get your take on this.We get paid every other week at work and it seems that no matter what the same 2 guys are broke in a matter of days.I mean I could understand if something came up but its all the time! Two or three days after payday they start there rounds asking for 20 bucks. It just gets old.I'll admit it I have loaned it before, but haven't for a while, and I feel like heck now when I tell them no.Well would you or do you loan money to your coworkers, how do you avoid the whole issue.

If I liked and trusted the person, I throw them a 20 once in a while (if I could spare it)
If I didn't like and didn't trust them, i'd make up a long excuse why "I don't have it" ...
If you go on and on about YOUR money problems, they wont bug you in the future.
The whole trick is getting it stuck in their heads --- "not to ask this guy ever again"Last edited by Mikey; Sep 5, '08, 4:27 PM. -
I don't loan money unless I can afford to never see it again.
If I loan anyone money and they pay it back without me having to ask for it, like within a few days, I would probably loan it again. If I loan someone a small amount and they never pay it back, they certainly won't get a nickel out of me the next time. I suppose you have to look at it like charity. They may get all "Help out a guy" this and that, but trust me, they won't be anywhere around if you need 20 bucks."Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."Comment

I would'nt loan it to them more then once
One of my best friends is always asking for money,it got to the point that I snapped at him and he's never asked again
It would be $5 here,$3 there and he'd never offer to pay it back.It adds up man"Time to nut up or shut up"-Tallahassee

Question:
Hey man, what's up ?
Do you think you could spot me a 20 till payday.
I'm running short and I don't know if i'm gunna be able to get through the week.
Reply:
Hey dude,
I'd love to if I could but times have been tough... I barely have coffee money for myself.
Last week I was running low and the damn car battery went.... Worst time ever... Totally cleaned me out plus I had to borrow money from my kid --- you don't know embarrassment until you ask your kid for 50 bucks. ....... So I got the 50 and kicked in 25 more .... My luck, I bought the battery, put it in ... and it still won't start .... My buddy looked at it and it turns out it's the starter ....... Don't even ask how much I had to beg borrow and sleal to get that damn thing fixed.....
Sorry for going on and on....

I don't mind helping someone out now and then but no way would I do it on a regular basis. I knew a guy like that once, always borrowing money. Found out he just used it for partying on the weekends. The next time he came around I told him he should get a second job. He never bothered me again.Comment

Yes, I would, but my co-workers have never asked, so if they did, I wouldn't mind. However, if they started asking often, I wouldn't do it anymore. I have enough to support without having to support someone else. I'm all for helping someone out, but if they do it over and over and over again, then it's not helping them, it's enabling them.Comment

I don't lend money, only because it's very awkward. I Love to Shop and spend it just like the next guy. Now when it comes to Family. Like my Sisters for instance, I just Give them the Money. No worries, they would help me if they could.
