Yeah, Bread was pretty laid back...but they did have some good rock songs too. I love Mother Freedom. Nice guitar rift at the beginning.

Bread was the more laid back. America was soft pop rock, but Bread was even softer, more like gooey dough than bread.

        Bread was more laid back.

Both bands had/have made some great music. David Gates is the main song writer (and singer) for Bread and wrote some big hits..many of those became classics. On the other side, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell along with Dan Peak wrote many beautiful songs that were also huge hits and are now classic tunes.

The Little River Band is pretty good, I agree, but this thread is only about the bands "Bread" and "America."

Bread was more laid back. But I'm a bigger fan of America. I listen to them all the time. I'm pretty much a sucker for 1970s soft rock!!

Once Bread became Toast it was all over for America

but I gotta say that for different reasons, I find both of them mellow and laid back .....depends on the song and place I'm listening to that song for me

One Bread song I really like is Guitar Man.

It's stuctured so well, it's almost hypnotic.

America had some upbeat songs like Tinman.

Yeah, that's an excellent one from David Gates and Bread.

Here's a live performance video of "Bread" playing "Guitar Man" from 1972:

Here a vintage (early 1970s) live performance from "America" playing their classic "Ventura Highway":
