Toshiba Laptop with Vista crashes after automatic updates!

Toshiba Laptop with Vista crashes after automatic updates!

I know someone had this same issue. I have been going through the threads but I can't seem to find the guy who had the issues. Please speak up!!!!

I bought a Toshiba lap top about the beginning of summer for my DJ business.
It kept updating stuff with the automatic updates. I figured no problem.

I remember someone on here posted something about this and I can't find the post.

This morning after it got done "updating" the laptop went into a cycle that started updating and it would stop at the 2nd stage and reboot and my computer would come on saying it could not load and it was attempting to "repair" my system. After it did that, it went back into continuing to update it. It got to the second stage and redid this process.
I let it go on for hours until I decided to turn it off and mess with it the next morning.

I did a F6 and went into my recovery tools and started my computer back to August 16th. It went through the restore process and now everything is going good.

So what caused my updates to do this? I thought the person who posted it on this board was for sure wrong but after experiencing this, he was right.
Something happened. Almost like some of the updates didn't update.

Could AVAST be blocking my updates or some of them?

Until the problem is solved, I turned off all the automatic updates. I need to really figure this out. I only use this laptop for DJing and when I am lazy and laying in bed talking to people on AIM.

    Need thoughts.

The same thing happened to my desktop.

It kept updating over and over again. I have XP not Vista though. For some reason it always wanted to update constantly. It was like it didn't take the first updates cause after it updated it would update again. Always showing the updates available symbol.

I was thinking about finally getting another computer. Well now it doesn't do it anymore. I kept cleaning the hard disc and running scans and I left it on automatic updates. Not sure if that even helped the computer but nows it's back to normal. No problems since.

I'm Still not sure why it did that. Good luck.

This really has me baffled. I have been reading all my VISTA manuals and asking a million questions on computer boards. It is really hard to figure out what happened.

My theory, I am thinking that I got my security way to tight with my Avast program. I have it set up for P2P blocking so I won't get busted for accidentally downloading something that I shouldn't.

I think maybe the Avast blocked some VISTA downloads and they were crucial downloads. So when the computer rebooted, it began updating my hard drive and it was missing some crucial downloads and it was causing the burp and going over and over trying to repair itself.

I am going to turn my automatic updates off for a few weeks or so on the laptop until I get through these major weddings I got coming up. After that, I am going to research this really good before I turn them back on. If I wasn't a computer tech, this could have easily cost me big bucks to fix this baby.

Thank god for recovery tools and the infamous F6 button!

I remember that thread, and I posted the same thing. If your puter is working smooth stay away from updtes in vista.

Everything is running smooth this morning. I got a noon labor fest gig today. Thankfully, we are not using this lap top as planned. I am running sound for an Elvis Impersonator friend of mine who doesn't use a band anymore. All the music is prerecorded on a laptop and when we use the full powered PA the music is so powerful with the use of the PA and the laptop, it feels and sounds like a full fledged band behind him. If venues were not so cheap, he could afford bands but you have to get with the times. It is sad. I get paid a lot as a soundman doing his gigs. It is sad that backing tracks bring home more cash. That is 2008 for you.
