    Weird Al

I saw him live about 10 years ago and thought he was great. Anyone else listen to him? Now I must admit I can't stand his polka crap he puts on every album but his parodies are fantastic.

    I love Weird Al, Coach.

In fact, I would not be surprised if he were secretly a member of this board because he "gets it" like most people here do.

I'm a huge fan of Weird Al. I saw him in concert in 1999 or 2000. He puts on a great show. I even like his polka crap .

I've always liked Al. Probably the first "rock" record I ever bought was his single of "Eat It". I haven't really heard any of his stuff since his Star Wars/American Pie parody. I still catch myself singing his version when Don Mclean comes on the radio.

I don't sit around listening to his music, but I enjoy his videos alot. His "White and Nerdy" video should be required viewing for membership here.

I have his Greatest Hits album from the 80s. My class loves this album! I also saw him open for the Monkees in the 80s as well. Great show!

I have to ask: How does your class relate to these songs? I mean most of them are parodies of
"current hits" (at the time) which I'm sure they're not familiar with because all of the parodied songs are "old" in terms of radio play... Unless their parents/guardians play it to them, or if they're tuning in the radios on their own, I can't see a little kid even having an idea of the artists who Weird Al's stuff is based on... I'm sure your 4 year olds have no clue about a song like "Our Love's In Jeopardy" parodied in "I Lost In Jeopardy" or even a more well known song like "Beat It"/"Eat It"...

I'm not saying those kids wouldn't like the original stuff which is parodied, but I find it hard to believe they would "get" most of the references in the parodies... How many of your students even know what an Amish person is? ("Amish Paradise")... I can't see how a little kid can find the stuff funny when they have no idea of what they're laughing at...

But in any case, I'm in the minority here... I never got the appeal of his music... Even a group of pre-schoolers like his stuff more than me...

Love Al and I have since I was in 6th grade I even instituted a Weird Al fan club in which we met once and rented UHF watched it and played one of his CD's we all thought we were really cool at the time and even made a t-shirt for out fan club made of about 6lbs of fabric puff paint. I could never wear it but I loved it any how. And that is what my soon to be wife calls a "Geek Attack".

I've seen him live twice. Great shows. His was one of the first records I bought, too. It was the one with "Another One Rides the Bus" on it.
