Superman 2- Becoming human in the name of love

Ok, I'm sitting here watching Superman 2 on cable, and they just showed the scene where Superman gives up all of his powers for the love of Lois Lane.

So my question is this: Pick your favorite superhero of the opposite gender. They are not just a character in a comic book, they are real and millions of people rely on them to keep the world safe. They have fallen hopelessly in love w/ you and they are prepared to renounce their powers for their undying love for you. Would you let them do it?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

If you are a selfish, chain-smoking twit like the movie's Lois Lane, then yeah, sure.

Seriously, that is a huge flaw in the movie. It makes both Superman and Lois look REALLY bad. The Donner cut makes it seem like more of a rash decision, since Jor-El is clearly frowning on it, and that helps ease the pain, since we've all done stupid things for love.

But no, I hope I'd have enough sense to say "what are you, nuts?".

Yeah that whole sub-plot ruins the movie for me somewhat...she's such a bee-yotch to Clark until the big reveal and then she's all lovey dovey....Golddigger.

        Hmmmm....

It always bothers me when the superhuman/robot/supertrooper/alien falls in love. Isn't there any OTHER facet of the human experience that's worthwhile?

God, that woman is ugly and nasty. I am not sure how she ever got the role as Lois Lane. They were not running short of hot babes back then. What gives with that? That was a bad casting decision. If watch closely on a high def TV, that woman's teeth are yellow.

and then the whole leads to weekend-Dad Superman 30 years later. Ugh.

I don't think Kidder was unnattractive in the first movie, and the parts filmed by Donner then for Superman II. She aged A LOT between the filmings however, and looked almost anorexic in the Lester-filmed parts of the film.

In her defense, she did have good chemistry with Reeve. Just watch the screen tests that are on the DVD. The other actresses just can't pull off that hardened-spunky reporter, but innocent little girl riff they were going for.

Not a great fan of her, but she worked for what they were going after, initially anyway.

But to get off kidder and back to the original question, I wouldnt let them do it.

Everytime there was some disaster I'd feel guilty. Wow 6,000 died so I could get a little nookie.

Knowing my luck the moment my hot super heroine gave up her power thats when some giant comet or invading aliens would show up and wipe us all out anyway.

Thing is why exactly couldnt Sups and lois do anything anyway? There are creative ways around the sex deal. At the most they couldnt have children maybe being from 2 different spieces

Ps we need a Superman "S" icon for posts. He was a mego too. We have a Bat symbol and a tardis. We even have a Greatest American hero symbol but NO "S"

Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
                Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

I was just watching some Donner cut scenes on youtube (I still never seen the whole Donner cut)

I was shocked to see Non kill that little Mid-Western British kid.

That was way too violent for a FUN movie like this imo.

                  I'm glad it was cut.

Good point about the screen test. Kidder nailed it. She had great chemistry with Reeve.

Ok, let's get back on topic (thanks Seeler), b/c this really wasn't meant to be a Superman 2 thread, though I did site that as the example.

As for the topic at hand....Most, if not all, female super heroes are extremely...well, they are just plain hot! If someone like Wonder Woman said she would hang it all up for a schlub like me....I'd take her up on the offer before she sobered up!!!

Nah, I'm in it for the super powers. I can have a statuesque Amazon in a skin tight jumpsuit any day of the week, but if she can't throw a bus across the city what's the point?
