The short version is: Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel pitched a Superboy series in the early 40s, on his own, unsolicited, and DC rejected it. While Siegel was in the Army in WWII, DC published their own version of Superboy. Siegel's heirs have sued DC for the rights to Superboy, and in separate suit for Superman. A few years back a judge ruled the Siegel estate had rights to the Superboy concept and name. DC lawyers have been fighting it ever since, but DC has put a moritorium on the Superboy name for now.

The Superman lawsuit is still going through the motions too, although a judge ruled a few months back that the Siegel estate should have partial ownership to the Superman elements present in the original Action Comics #1 story.

Hoo boy...where to begin? First, I'm not a lawyer so if I'm getting some of this incorrect please feel free to chime in:

The heirs of Jerry Siegel are suing DC Comics for the rights to Superman (again). They were recently awarded the rights to everything in "Action Comics" #1, as it was created prior to their "work for hire" agreement with National (DC).

Superboy is a separate issue because Jerry Siegel created a Superboy prior to going into the service, which DC did not buy from him at the time. Instead, they did their own thing a few years later...and therein lies the disagreement.

DC put a moratorium on all things "Superboy" a few years back (killing off the Kon-El clone in "Infinite Crisis", using Superman in the Legion cartoon, etc.) So apparently that's why no follow up to the DVD of Season 1 of the live action TV series as well as the lack of Superboy cartoons on the Filmation DVD.

[QUOTE=ThatBatmanGuy;188902]I will pick this up very soon. I have most of them on tape from cartoon network.

I've had most of them on tape from those sources myself and it feels so good that I get to throw away these tapes slowly but surely.

Hopefully the rest of the Superman episodes will be released.

I too hope for this. I especially love the last 8 episodes that were two parters animated in the same style as the Batman series. I wish we'd get either a New Adventures of Superman Volume 2 or a Batman/Superman Hour set would be even better.

I wonder what the hold up is on the Batman set.

If you watch the Interview on Filmation Founder Lou Scheimer, they show footage throughout the interview with scenes from not only the DC
Super Heroes, but also Aquaman and BOTH Batman cartoons. The footage they show from the 1968 Batman series looks like it's been remastered. Makes me wonder if that might be in the works.

Not talking about the crappy 70's version that is already out.

On that note, I have to respectfully disagree with you. To me, the only thing crappy in that series was the inclusion of BatMite and characters like Sweet Tooth and Professor Bubbles. Otherwise, nothing crappy about it in my opinion at the very least. It was this Batman series that got me exposed to the character, plus having Adam West and Burt Ward voicing over the Caped Crusaders made it memorable. The animation was also better in this series.
At the age of 5, I fondly recall watching this Batman series with Tarzan and the Super 7, the Space Sentinels and the live Shazam and Isis series.

However, it's just a matter of opinion, so I am willing to agree to disagree.

In the meantime, let's keep rooting for WB to release the 1968 Batman series and the rest of the Superman series by Filmation so we can throw away those other tapes.

                    Cheers.

Buena Vista has most if not all the older Marvel toons tied up. The 67 Spidey is OOP now, too.

Now all I need is the 68 Batshow. I passed on the 70's one, it was wretched.
