I just watched the Supegirl movie again

And you know what, it's quite a bit better than I remember. I've been waffling on which DVD version to get of this movie, and lo and behold there was one at Wal-Mart for $7.50 (along with all the other Reeve-era movies), so I bit. I was surprised to find it was the extended European cut. Even better. I don't think I've seen this movie since it first hit video a good 23 years ago or so (I had also seen it while in theaters). I was prepared to wince a lot, but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Sure, Faye Dunaway is campy and there are plot holes you could drive a truck through, but it really does have the feel of those 3 Salkind Superman films. And Helen Slater did a great job as Supergirl.

I liken it to watching Superman III and thinking, for what it was, it's not bad. Sure they made some odd choices in story direction, but they executed it fairly well once they went in said direction.

It's too bad that cut-up version made it into theaters here and it bombed. After a rough start, they could have done more with the character, and it would have been great to see her and Reeve interact. Oh well...

For $7.50, not bad. And now my kids can watch it whenever.

SUPERMAN III is pure camp with a sweet love story and a clever final scene
plot payoff thrown in for extra goodness.

SUPERGIRL just kinda idles between a decent to boring version of the same thing---
it may have camp value---but I prefer the "in your face" kind of SUPERMAN III.

The "Salkindness" works in that "yeah it's the Salkinds" nostalgic way---but that only helps
    the film to limited extent.

Fun watch for SUPERGIRL fans, but not something worth revisiting often.

As often is said...it's worth it to see it once just for Slater in the suit...
her looks seems just right for the role. Fine actress too...just not a spectacular script.

Like everyone is saying definitely worth checking out, but it's not the greatest movie in the world.

Helen Slater is the highlight. She not only looks beautiful but is a good embodiment of the character. Would have really love to have seen her and Reeve interact as originally intended. That would have been something special.

My daughter loves to watch the scene where she first comes to earth and is flying around in the forest. Some decent flying effects as well.

You know, I remember when this movie came out in theaters. My friend Max and I were super excited, and his parents promised to take us to the theater to see it.

However, when we got there, they started hemming and hawing saying that there was a better film showing there, and we'd enjoy THAT much more. (In other words, they didn't want to sit through it, and didn't trust us to sit through it alone.)

So after getting all jakked up and going to the theater to see Supergirl, Max and I ended up watching Oh God, You Devil, with his parents.

I own the super deluxe 2 disc set of Supergirl now. I don't own any George Burns movies at all. That's my belated way of protesting that parental decision.

Chris you had me until you mentioned Superman III. The only thing worse than that was IV.
