Gatchaman and Flash Gordon comics coming form Mad Cave Studios

Mad Cave Studios previously announced they were doing Dick Tracy comics and had acquired the rights to Gatchaman and Flash Gordon. At the retailer summit at NYCC they revealed some of the creative teams for these

Mad Cave Studios previously announced that it will expand its publishing line to include world-renowned licensed brands Flash Gordon, Gatchaman, and Dick Tracy.

This morning at New York Comic Con’s Lunar Retailer Breakfast, the five writers and artists spearheading the forthcoming Gatchaman and Flash Gordon comics were announced, including prolific creators Cullen Bunn, Chris Batista, Steve Orlando, Tommy Lee Edwards, and Jeremy Adams.

The beloved anime Gatchaman comes to comics, written by Cullen Bunn with artwork by Chris Batista, while writer Steve Orlando and artist Tommy Lee Edwards will build upon that continuity with mind-blowing spin-off projects as an ongoing series starting June 2024.

Flash Gordon will be reimagined for a new generation by writer Jeremy Adams, with some really innovative tie-in projects planned to tip the hat to classic iterations, and will debut in July 2024.

Previously, Mad Cave Studios also announced that co-writers Alex Segura and Michael Moreci will team up with artist Geraldo Borges for the return of the iconic detective, Dick Tracy in March 2024.

I'm always a little concerned when folks talk about reimagining Flash Gordon as we tend to wind up with stuff like the SyFy channel series, but Jeremy Adams has a good rep, so we will wait and see. I enjoyed Cullen Bunn's take on Micronauts for IDW a few years back, different from the Marvel version buy enjoyable, so I look forward to seeing what he will do with the Gatchaman team. And I love Tommy Lee Edwards art, so that is something to look forward to.

It'll be a bit before these hit the stands, but I've liked the stuff form Mad Cave I've picked up and I am excited for these to come out.

So I heard form writer Jeremy Adams when I voiced my concern on reinventing Flash Gordon on that thing that used to be twitter, and got this response:

I ain’t reinventing anything. I’m keeping Flash Gordon as is. I want to tell stories AFTER he saves the universe.
The way I am looking at it, is just more pulp sci fi stories to tell. Sorta like how Tarzan or Conan just kept telling new stories. There will be twists and turns, but Flash will be the square jawed hero that leaps into danger in order to save the world…
So glad to hear that, it's exactly what I want out of a Flash Gordon comics.

I had forgotten all about that Flash Gordon syfy show. My son was born In 2006 and 2007 I moved from NY to TX so I was busy. Apparently the critics hated the first several episodes. One called the third episode the worst episode of anything ever. Then they say it got better where by episode ten they started recommending it but everyone had stopped watching it except the people who had to review it. The people writing about say it turned into a complex and engaging world system ranking with Dune which is kind of a big deal for a science fiction web site to say about a soon to be cancelled single season series. I gotta check it out I think.

It had some interesting stuff (I have it on DVD) but it in no way felt like Flash Gordon. It had the makings of a really interesting sci-fi show, just not a good Flash Gordon show. It just felt like the writers had these ideas for a show but they had to sell Flash Gordon so they stuck the character and place names on the concept they had rather than writing an actual Flash Gordon based show.
