Trials of Shazam was a mess IMO...I just heard that the whole idea behind it was to get Captain Marvel to become "Shazam" as that's what most people refer to him as anyway. Pretty stupid reason to reboot a concept if you ask me.

I bought Final Crisis while on vacation, it made me angry. Too much needless blood and violence, I don't need to see "Heroes" ripping hearts out and calling each other "*** hole". I don't like where any of it is going, who cares about "New New Gods"? Not Me!

I have to agree....even though there was some cross-over with the DC Universe, Jack Kirby's original Fourth World saga was pretty much contained to it's own universe. Since then though, DC has sought to milk his ideas and concepts for all they're worth and instill these characters into every cross-over that occurs.

I like the way Marv Wolfman handled Darkseid and friends in the original "Crisis on Infinite Earths"...on the fringe, not smack-dab in the middle of the events going on.

The problem is, Kirby tossed more bizarre concepts and ideas into a single issue sometimes than other writers do during their whole run on a book. Instead of someone like Morrison (who is more than capable of creating bizarre concepts in his own right) running with their own ideas, we see them canabalizing Kirby time and time again. It's getting to the point where the "New Gods" are becoming the "Old, Been-There-Done That-To Death Gods".
