Ah, in the Seventies I could (and did) ACTUALLY buy almost everything that came out. The only things I skipped were the romance books still hanging around & the Charlton versions of the Hanna-Barbera stuff. But stuff I remember fondly were:

The Brave & The Bold (Aparo!)
    Kamandi (Kirby!)
Secret Society of Super-Villains (Captain Comet!)
DC Specials & One -Shot Specials (Super-Heroes vs. Super-Gorillas!)
Justice League of America (Dick Dillin!)
Marvel Two-In-One (The Thing & Tigra!)
    The Flash (Irv Novick!)
    Warren b/w titles (Vampi!)
    Hercules Unbound (Garcia-Lopez!)
Space Family Robinson (Lost in Space on Space Station One!)
Gold Key & Whitman comics (3 pack plastic bags!)
    Hot Wheels (Toth!)

How long can I go on...?

I don't think the paper they printed those on at the time was standard issue newsprint, but only a step or two higher. Don't you love the smell of those treasury editions when you open them up? Patticularly when I go through the MTE with Thor fighting Hercules, the smell reminds me of the Christmas night I spend devouring the whole thing whilst eating little ham sandwiches and Christmas cookies since I got it as a Christmas present. Good, good memories...!

Duh! How could I have forgotten about DEVIL DINOSAUR! AND all the cool MARVEL TREASURY EDITIONS I bought (and their DC counterparts)! I remember seeing the very FIRST Spider-Man Marvel Treasury Edition at Eight Mile and having to beg and plead to borrow a buck from my Mom to pay for it. She give it to me---after I cleaned out the gutters on the garage and helped her rake up some yard debris!!! Still have it, too!

Whatever my dad would bring me home since I too young to buy on my own! Since I liked Spider-Man it would usually be Amazing, Spectacular Marvel Tales or Team-Up. A few Hulks made it in as I remember. Things picked up a but in the 80's when I got older. 70's books have since become my favorite with full runs of ASM from that time, Spectacular, Team-Up, Marvel Two-One, Spider-Woman, and Defenders in my collections. Almost done with my Avengers and Brave & Bold runs run from that period and am enjoying them quite a bit. Also have a surprising fun Wonder Woman run from the 70's as well. Batman, Detective and Justice League will probably be next.

    From the seventies....

    Hmmmm....

Lessee, I was just ten in '74 and I was IN LOVE with SUPERMAN and THE AVENGERS.

From my love of Superman, came fondness for World's Finest, Batman, Green Lantern and The Justice League. Also got my first taste of "scary" with Swamp Thing and House of Mystery.

After my love affair THE AVENGERS, I became addicted to Iron Man, Thor, The Fantastic Four, The Hulk and, of course, eventually, Spider-Man. I always looked forward to either walking or riding my bike up to the nearby Convenient Food Mart or Eight Mile Pharmacy (both of which are now long defunct), taking the dollar my Mom gave me out of my pocket and plunking it down for several new issues of the above mentioned comics as well as a Charms Sweet n' Sour pop and a box of rock candy.

When I got older, I developed an interest in war comics and Marvel's version of Dracula.

In '76, Marvel came out with a book called THE MAN CALLED NOVA and it put me over the top. I loved that book (as did another, more minty board member). After that, it was like someone turned on a faucet of geeky goodness with Micronauts, Godzilla (Marvel's is still my favorite comics interpretation---Doug Moench just had away with the Big G no one else has had since!), Shogun Warriors, ROM, etc.

Overall, I'd say the seventies were a good time to be reading comics....
