    It's "Action" #500 actually...an Andru/Giordano classic.

George Perez but only for his very cool Luthor suit and revamped Brainiac/skull version.
Perez was responsible for the Luthor redesign but I think it was Ed Hannigan who came up with the new look for Brainiac...

That's it! I always wanted that issue based on the cover alone.

I think you're right about Hannigan. I think Gil Kane drew the story in that comic. George drew Brainiac better though.

        Men of Steel

Curt Swan's my favorite and I really like Ross' version, too.

Garcia Lopez did an issue in the late 1970s or early 1980s where Superman and Lois went on a date and it was spectacular in my mind's eye.

As for Neal Adams, the Superman vs. Muhammed Ali treasury edition is one of the best drawn comics ever.

I really would have liked to have seen Terry Austin ink Byrne on Superman during his run, although I really liked Giordano and Kessel's inks on Byrne.

I love Gil Kane's art, but Superman seemed like a different character when he drew him, still good but different. I loved the DC Comics Presents annual Kane drew that team Supes and Captain Marvel.

Someone mentioned Rich Buckler and I agree. Buckler did a slew of covers for DC at one point and his Superman just looked right. I believe he drew the Superman vs. Shazam Treasury that also had fantastic art.

From the Golden Age, I liked Jack Burnley's take on the Man of Steel. It was modled on Shusters, but cleaner and more refined.

I really enjoy what Gary Frank is doing right now on Action Comics (cross between Swan and Chris Reeve, as well as Guedes on Superman.

McGuines' take was fun and I really love Ivan Reis' work (kind of a melding of Neal Adams and Mike Grell).

Of course, George Perez draws every character great. And Jerry Ordway's rendition always reminded me of George Reeves for some reason.

Jackson Guice drew a Superman/Darkness team up a few years ago that I thought was very good.

And Tim Sale's version fit Superman for all Seasons perfectly.

And I really couldn't imagine anyone but Frank Quietly drawing All-Star Superman.

The long and short of it — I believe Superman brings out the best in many artists. Or maybe I just like the Man of Steel, too much.

Yep I must agree with most that CURT SWAN/MURPHY ANDERSON is indeed the best but I really love what Alex Ross brought to the Justice series. How about others like writers and such? I am a big fan of Dan Jurgens and the wholes Doomsday and Death of Superman series. I even have a Doomsday #0 promo w/ his auto and a poster of the funeral w/ the auto as well. TC
