Pretty much sums up my view. It wasn't all thaaaat bad. Jessica Alba is hot, but she is NOT an actress. Couldn't even tell you who played Reed or Dr. Doom. Johnny and Ben are probably the best part of either movie.

I'd like to read some opinions on supporting Comic Movies (or not supporting Comic Movies)? I want to support anything that comes out so they will keep making more. However, I don't want to support crappy movies. (I guess I want them to think they can make a movie and make money, but I don't want them to think they can just make any piece of crud and fans will be happy.)

In all honesty, how many Comic Movies (with Classic Characters) have EVER been what you would call a "good movie"? Spider-Man 1 & 2, Superman the Movie, X-Men 1 & 2, and Batman Begins, maybe?

I'm not trying to be definitive....only pointing out that overall, Superhero movies are crud (and a good one is an exception), but at least they are cranking SOMETHING out.

I was disgusted with the first movie...I'm glad I don't have to go and see this monstrosity of a sequel(It'll be a "catch it on cable at some point" movie, at best...I'm not going to waste money even renting it).

I know a lot of you guys think Jessica Alba is hot, hott or hawt...Or whatever, but she's was absolutely terrible in the first one (and she is/was really wrong for the part, in more ways than one). I think she attended the Halle Berry super heroine acting school...Bleh!

I agree that it is worse than The Hulk in the sense that it strayed from the original. However, it is far from being the worst Superhero Movie ever. If you think about it, most Superhero movies are bad. In fact, a good one is the exception. It was pretty much right down the middle. There were a few good moments with Ben and Johnny.

I like the fact that it's easy to follow, My godson is gonna love it when I take him next week! I seen it and I agree it's not the best super hero movie but the kids are gonna really like it and to me that is Important when it comes to superhero movies.

Think when you were a kid you loved Batman the series but man watching it today is so strange to me. I feel the same way about the 70s WW too... I remember it so differently from being a kid.. I think kids will see FF the way we used to see batman ther series and WW 70s show.

Actually Ioan Gruffudd is an excellent Welsh actor who was best known (until the FF films) as Horatio Hornblower of the Hornblower miniseries, he's really good, a classically trained thespian.

I think she IS indeed hot, however, she's just not right for the part.

I mean, out of TRILLIONS of blondes in the Los Angeles area, they went ahead and cast a brunette for the part of naturally blonde Sue Richards, lol.

Logic working at its best right there.

Sue Storm should have been played by Charlise Theron.

Theron is an A-lister who commands at least 10M for mainstream roles. The studio chose to go with a much cheaper cast for these films.

I'm sad to hear this was so bad. I was hoping for a turnaround. I love the Surfer/Galactus saga. But I know if Mick LaSalle, the SF Chronicle reviewer says it's the best movie of the season it must be a huge pile of crap.

I feel like the odd man out here. I did like but then I wasn't expecting much.
Despite what I read about the movie before hand I never believed it would be faithful to the original Silver Surfer/Galactus movie.

The movie is not perfect but I did find it less predictable than Spiderman 3.

                          Totally exceeded my expectations.

Heads and shoulders better than the first.

                          The Silver Surfer was PHENOMENAL!!!

The interaction between the four was very good, especially with the ferriss wheel.

Loved Johnny with all four powers.

Loved seeing Doom on the surf board even more!

This movie hit a home run in my opinion. Better than S3. Better than most super-hero movies.

                          I was thoroughly pleased.

I subscribe to the SF Chronicle and I read LaSalle's bloody movie reviews every Friday, I can't stand him, he's always dead wrong, at least for me, we have totally complete opposite tastes.

Like Histrionic Spock said, Theron is an A-list star, too expensive, and also she would've towered over everyone there, she's a bloody six-footer, imagine her walking side by side with Chiklis (the Thing), lol.

I posted my thoughts in the thread Hector started. But I REALLY liked this movie. If you haven't seen it, give it a chance. I feel it captured the spirit of the FF comics quite well. Sure there were some changes, but no more than any comic adaptation.

I truly do not think it's as bad as everyone has said... and it's SOOOO much bette than the first one. Though I hate the way Reed and Sue are something ENTIRELY different from the comics, Ben and Johnny are passable, I guess.

What I always try to get away from when a superhero movie comes out is expectation of a strict interpretation of the comics. Granted, it's nearly always better to stay as close as possible, but there have been times when departing from dogma has been a better idea than staying with it. The most notable examples have been X-Men's fascinating take on Magneto's origins and Spider-Man's built-in webslinging.

When I see a superhero movie, I do my best to look at it on its own merits. If it has none (like the Hulk movie), I at least try to look at it as a separate text. Granted, FF2 is not a great movie, but it is definitely not the worst. In terms of action and fun, it is superior the lastest Batman, and is at least as good as Van Helsing.
