The Legion Of Doom ... talk

What's REALLY up with The Legion Of Doom ?

WHY do they want to take over Earth anyway ?

    Do they want money ?
Seems to me they must have enough already, considering their cool ship and their unlimited bank account that finances all their evil schemes.

    Do they want POWER ?
What kind of power and why ?
WHY do they want to rule the world ?
Compared to the LOD, the world is actually a pretty lousy prize.

We all know there's life in the universe outside of Earth .......
WHY don't the LOD just go somewhere else ?
    Somewhere BETTER

    If you ask me,
    They're pretty stupid

I know a lot of it had to do with rights issues (Hanna-Barbera couldn't use certain Batman villains because of the simultaneous Filmation series), but the Legion of Doom is too heavy with Superman foes...

Superman: Lex Luthor,Brainiac,Bizarro,Solomon Grundy (I suppose he can also be looked upon as a Batman foe,
      albeit an obscure one),The Toyman

Batman & Robin: The Riddler,The Scarecrow

Wonder Woman: Cheetah,Giganta (although apparently she's Apache Chief's arch-nemesis as well)

      The Flash: Captain Cold,Gorilla Grodd

      Green Lantern: Sinestro

      Aquaman: Black Manta

Why does their secret swamp base look like Darth Vader's head?

The power and influence of George Lucas extends to even the Legion of Doom!

Anthony---I think Grundy is more considered a GL villain

              Hugh,
No Solomon Grundy was originally a villain for the GOLDEN AGE Green Lantern. The Silver Age GL (Hal Jordan) featured in the Super Friends was never a foe of Grundy.By the 70s, Grundy had migrated from Earth-Two (home of the GA GL) to Earth-One and fought Superman on several occassions (one in a team-up with Swamp Thing) and poked around Gotham City once or twice and fought Batman (The GA GL was set up in Gotham City of Earth-Two so maybe he was homesick). Interesting side-note...GA GL had a hard time with Grundy because his ring doesn't work on anything wood...and since Grundy was a swamp-based creature...well there ya go!

(Hanna-Barbera couldn't use certain Batman villains because of the simultaneous Filmation series)
Apparently HB intended to have the LOD led by Dr. Sivana and Captain Marvel was going to join the SF that season! Joker and Catwoman were in instead of Cheetah and Riddler. Filmation had the animated rights to many Batman villains (as you point out) and Shazam, while HB somehow got the live action rights to the big red cheese (see the Legends of the Super Heroes specials...or better yet, don't.)

The LOD without Lex just wouldn't seem right. Sivana isn't nearly as sinister as old Lex.

The LOD's motivation seemed to change one episode the next. I like how Timm and company treated the LOD/Secret Society in the last season of JLU. Revealing Grodd's grand plan was just turning everyone into apes was a nice poke at the old silly SF plots.

But man, I still get a charge when Challenge comes on. I'm such a geek.

I was talking about all this lastnight,.. as a Matter of fact. & For Me,.. it IS very hard to accept ScareCrow as one of the Most Powerful villians in the DCD over Joker Anyday.

The best thing for Me,.. as far as SuperFriends Go,.. Is ToyMan.

Luthor Ruled All the Villians on the Show,.. Perhaps not Brainiac,.. However all the other Villians really came off as a Bunch of D rated Villians that didn't know thier Heads from thier Arse,.. Unless Luthor told them What to do. Luthor was King.

I loved the LOD and was happy to see who they did pick as some didn't get much exposure otherwise at the time or maybe it was the only exposure I had but seemed like it was all there was of most of them in those days. Blackmanta was my favorite character on the show. I love how he talked!

As mentioned the rights to the Joker were locked up so I think that's why we got Scarecrow and Riddler...if you combine the two, you sorta get the Joker.
