Looks like they pulled in some elements from the sequel, Master of the Future, as well as adding their own new bits, and lots of other Batman characters.

I'm very excited for this, and I'm glad they are finally giving that pin-head, giant sloped shoulders, anime-lite design style a rest. I really hated that.

Certainly does look like it's going to be a nice departure from most of the animation out there currently which makes it a win in my book.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

This is one of my all time favorite Batman stories, and I hate to be a downer, but IMO this looks terrible.

So much of what made the graphic novel great was Mike Mignola's art. To see that art moving would have been incredible. The Amazing Screw On Head got it perfect.

Stylistically this is too much of a departure from Mignola's art, and why change the story and add characters? I just hate it when people take something that was perfect to begin with and try to make "improvements".

This is Mignola done right in animation...

^^^ Outside New Frontier there really weren't any faithful art adaptations for the DC cartoons, Batman Year One, All Star Superman, even Dark Knight (it was close but not dead on) all missed the mark in that department.

As much as I enjoy Mignola's art style, Dwayne, I can see why TPTB would choose to go with something similar rather than exact exact; mass consumption/sales. Whilst you and I and most people on these boards know who Mignola is and appreciate his particular artistic take on things, the general buying public likely does not and a deviation from norm as radical as doing a super-faithful Mignola translation would likely leave a number of buyers scratching their heads as, while Mignola's artwork, composition and storytelling are legendary, they may not appeal to everyone, plus his style may be difficult to translate to animation for a whole heard of animators. It's the same reason why it's pretty likely you'll never see really great, truly faithful animation adaptations of artwork from people like Sienkiewicz, Wrightson or McKean; while they're beautiful to behold in still motion, probably hard as hell to animate, and, likely, not as accepted by the masses, i.e. the buying public which is the bottom line for anyone selling anything. Just my nickel's worth...

                    Looking forward to this.

I like the tease that they might have more else world animated adaptations planned.

here's hoping Kingdom Come, or Superman Red Son, or Golden Age might one day be animated.

Although i suspect the natural commercial follow up to Gotham by Gaslight would be Batman Red Rain, which I'm a little lukewarm on.

I respectfully disagree. When BTAS debuted, Bruce Timm's style was radically different than anything that had come before and people embraced it immediately. Also, the Gotham by Gaslight producers gush over Mignola's work and make their adaptation of it a selling point in that teaser promo. At one point even saying how the book should have been printed on black paper...which is ironic since that screencap has ZERO black in it.
