This is what makes me sad about comic collecting

Couldn't give this book away 5 months ago...but wait, he's now in Arrow on TV:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-COMICS-RA...p2047675.l2557

Selling books like these is great...but it makes you really start to think about how this hobby/collecting is going. New collectors just don't give a rats arse about actually reading these books. They care more about key issues and what they are worth then actually reading the book. This is literally a 10th rate character in the DC Universe...but put him in a show and now it's the best thing since sliced bread. Ughh...I can't take crap like this anymore.
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them
    Isn't it a pity".

I like the character and the version that is on Legends has nothing to do with the classic version of the character:

Another book you couldn't give away 5 months ago...

I hear you. I knew the character of Ragman but always thought he was goofy. I am a lifelong comics fan and I did not even know who Steel was. the character on the show is okay, but he is rather goofy too

They are bringing money because they are 9.8 slabbed books. Hot off the press mint is 9.2

I agree I have a love of the books and don't follow the trends or speculations.
If you got this hot books sell em I don't see the comic book movie craze going any further than it has already.

I cant imagine what comics in this day and age will go for in the future as the print runs are so much lower than the 70s and 80s. I do find it hard to believe Steel and Ragman would fetch those types of prices.

Since the early 1940s alternate mediums have had an effect on the comicbook industry.

During the early 1940s the Superman radio show introduced Kryptonite which became a Superman staple (Kryptonite's impact on Superman himself being something we all VERY well know). And don't get me started on holding up the Harley Quinn example (more recent but HIGHLY influential to the comics).

The fifty year old (plus) 1960s Batman show had an effect on the comicbook Batman as well.

Heaven knows the value of comics being affected by popular movie and TV versions of the characters goes decades back too.... although specific price spikes with specific issues would be something I'd have to research for specific examples, I still ask, when did that start happening? 3 decades ago? As opposed to 5 decades ago? The Incredible Hulk 70s TV series SURELY had a large impact on Hulk comicbook sales... right? Whatever the exact data is..well...there's that.

The bright side is that in 2017 someone still gives a hoot about a 40 year old comicbook.

            Could be a LOT worse.

            The baseball card hobby?

It WISHES it could have these random spikes based on TV or film appearances.

I don't see this as a bad thing either...if an appearance in a film or TV show introduces people to a forgotten character and generates any new interest at all, that's a good thing.

Oh, and I always thought Ragman was spooky and cool.

I assumed the price was due to the acrylic coffin. If I cared I'd just buy these:

I like this way better than when a celebrity dies and their action figure becomes a $500 item.

Do you realize how much money Gene Simmons would make if he died? Damn shame he couldn't take it with him. Perhaps he would spiritually sue everyone for profiting off his likeness.
